Is it true that you can cut(don't know which one) a wire on the cdi to unrestrict it?

Hi PJ. Early model Yamahas and Hondas in the 80's and 90's had a red wire going to the CDI which was connected to a speed sensor. Cutting this wire would remove the restriction on the CDI. This no longer applies to modern scoots. If a CDI is restricted, it is done internally and the CDI has to be replaced in order to remove the restriction.

Most of the aftermarket CDI's I have tested are unrestricted. Not a good deal with silly customers. I have replaced several crankshafts this summer due to over roving of the engine. In my experience 9000 rpm is max, 10,000 rpm is iffy, and 11,000 rpm things go BOOM. This is for the 50's not enouf experience on the 150's to know what they will stand.

Much over 9500 rpm on a 150 GY6 and you run the risk of meltdown

I have to ask WHY DO you think you have a CDI that is REV-LIMITED? You have had that scooter for some time now so why all of a sudden? Explain how it acts and what you have done to the Motor. Alleyoop

Most stock CDIs have a rev limitation circuit...the only way is to replace it with a 'performance CDI'. Generally the orange CDIs are the same as the black ones with the rev limitation circuit removed.
If you want something decent with super fast and bigger capacitors get a NCY brand or Linhai etc.

bababoom18The part of the connector is the RIGHT side of the plug... the AC type have two wires and the DC have one wire . The LEFT side of the plugs are the same on both types of CDIs
