Dean, do you mean the electrical ground on your frame? I don't think that would cause a knocking noise. If that one is stripped any good clean spot on the frame should work. A starter bolt should work fine as you said. I looked in the manuals and could not find a specific torque setting for the starter clutch nut although I'm sure there is one. In the video section Steven from MonsterGY6 goes over the starter clutch installation and basically says to snug it up really well. There is a wrench specifically for that nut but everyone I've seen do it uses a chisel. I don't think you can get very torque specific with a chisel can you? I'm sure you're aware that's a reverse thread as many times as you've put it on. That puppy should be staying on, there's something wrong there. Could you possibly just need a new nut? If you go to the Manuals, Help Files, and PDIs board you can click on Non-Chinese manuals and wade through them for a torque setting. I couldn't find one. Sprocket can usually pluck torque settings out of thin air, maybe he's around somewhere. Rich

40NM -- thin air ;-)
Seriously...that crank tread job can't be to spec...no way it should loosen with the regularity it does or the nut is defective...
Have you tried a new nut? Perhaps the nut you are using has a hairline crack? Really difficult to see especially when bangin' it with a cold chisel...

try putting a lock washer behind the nut then put silacone on the threads after you tighten the nut up that should hold it

How about just adding a little blue loctite to the threads before you tighten it up ?

He used permanent red loctite and it still backed off...I can't believe this is such a problem... the threads on the crank must be under sized... I think you aren't getting it nearly tight enough with a screwdriver...you really should use the proper socket on a torque wrench

I didn't know that. it must be undersized like you said Sprocket. i never hear of a nut coming off with red loctite and the right tool would definitely help with the right torque. Maybe grind down a junk socket to make a tool to tighten it, i don't know ? I imagine sooner or later I will have to find out for myself when i tear into this engine i just got..
