Hi guys, Carlster again. Lately my fuel gauge seems to be acting up. When it runs low on gas and I add more the gauge seems to be stuck where it was when I added the gas even when I know its full. Some times it seems after I hit a few pumps in the road it will go up to where it should be. It seems as though the floater thing maybe getting stuck. Is there a quick fix for this that anyone may know of? I'd hate to have to keep going over pumps on purpose just to see how much gas I have, lol. Also wiggling the bike back and fore a bit seems to get it on stuck as well. Its a 150cc Chinese Roketa with the fuel tank on the floor board just behind and in between where your feet rest while riding. Thanks in advance for any help anyone has to offer.

Thanks, once again this has been the most helpful site on this issue, you guys are the greatest. Do you think a cork screw from a bottle of wine would be a good replacement for the float or would the gas just dissolve it? I have heard this idea before and it sounds like a good idea, any thought on that? Thanks again.

I have not tried using one, but I believe there is some kind of lacquer that you cover the cork with and make it gas prove. But from the way yours is acting up I do not think that the Float is Leaking. I think it is loose by the Swivel contact plate and the Wire that holds the FLoat going through the Swivel Contact plate needs to be tightened up. Alleyoop You see How I used a Small Brass Collar with a set screw to hold the wire and Contact Plate nice and tight against the Resistor plate. The clip on washer they use does not it hold it good enough. To see if the Float is leaking stick submerge it in a little can of gas and see if it fills up or you see bubbles. If so then the Float is not good. If good then tighten it up PLUG it in and before you stick it back on turn the key on and move the float up and down and see if the gauge registors.

Ok, sounds great. I'll give that a try first and let you know how it works out, probably toward the end of the week. Thanks again.

i had a similar problem replace float with a cork it works slide cork on heat up wire tip bend it upward and it fixed all my gas gauge problems you have to heat up tip to keep cork from sliding out wire is very stiff but a propane torch gets it red hot and bends easy to keep it from sliding off ERIC GOOD LUCK

It has to be a REAL cork.. some of the wine corks these days are plastic and some are fine pieces of cork glued together...
