I've bought quite a few CDI performance boxes over the years. I've never seen any difference from those and the good old stock units. Scrappy once told me to get the orange CDI not because it performed better but because it was more durable....an honest appraisal. I think spark advance is programmed into the unit to begin with with, changing that could have negative performance issues. There's a lot of debate as to whether a CDI box has a rev limiter to begin. This may be just a marketing ploy. However, Stven at MonsterGY6 sells a few CDIs that he says have no rev limit. He's a very sincere guy and I believe if he says this at the very least he believes it and it's probably true. Anyway, it looks REALLY cool:
If only it had some flashing lights in it! Rich

I have found that usually the 50ccs may come with a REV LIMITED CDI to keep it in the 25-30mph range so it is considered as a MOPED that does not have to be registered, that way they get more business from the younger crowd and sell more units. Another way to determine if you have some kind of restriction is take the CVT cover off and mark the Variator and see how high the belt travels up it. Many I have seen the belt stops about 1" from the edge which represents anywhere from 5+ miles per hour lost. Alleyoop

CDIs do nothing for the top end...only once did I see an improvement and it was with a NCY CDI. Most of the performance CDIs are the same as stock with the rev limiter removed sometimes... the only thing they really perform is removing more cash from your wallet..
