If its not one thing its another w/ this damn scoot, but my fault this time it seems

I moved into my new place and to celebrate finishing the move I took my friend out to dinner ( also thank him for helping me move ) He drove his car and I drove my scooter since it was on the way to the new place where we were both ending up. We both parked, ate and during our meal a MASSIVE rain storm came. The street was flooded to about 1' of water in a matter of 1 hr then it stopped raining. I was hoping that where my scooter was parked was on higher ground and not in a deep puddle. Luckily it was and the water barely came up an inch on the tire. However... since my scooter is on probation from the gas problem I just solved I had not put the seat back on tight, it was kind of just sitting on the screws and there was space for water to get in around it. My dumb arse didn't cover it while eating dinner like I should have. I was tired from the move and just didn't think about it. Also cars could have splashed it hard too.

As I went to pull away w the scooter it started fine, and it drove fine for about 2 blocks and then started bogging and jerking bad. 2 blocks more and if I gave it any gas it would rev but not accelerate. I know that w/ the new fuel set up the tank likes to be pretty full because the extra pressure of the gas helps feed the manual line better now that it doesn't have any suction. The tank was pretty low and so I pushed it 2 blocks to a gas station and filled it up. Again it started fine and idled fine but would not accelerate, if I tried to keep giving it gas, the more I turned the throttle the more it would almost die and then die if I didn't let off it, but it idled fine w no gas.

I then pushed it 18 blocks home ( fun after a long day of moving )
When I was almost home and was trying to start it again I noticed something strange. It would make a turning signal clicking noise when the turning signal was not on. I turned turning signal left on, it made the normal noise w/ normal lights, then i turned the turning signal right on, it made the normal noise w/ normal lights, then I pushed the button to the center ( the turning signal off position) and no lights but it still made a turning signal noise, however a tiny bit slower of a clicking pattern than the regular signal. I then decided that it may be an electrical problem. It would only make this noise when the key is in the ignition and in the on position.

The whole way home pushing it the quote ive seen Alleyoop give on these boards echoed through my head " the electricals do not like water "

I tried it once more before I made it home and now it would barely begin to turn over so I killed the battery starting it trying to get it to run, so I covered it and charged up the battery.

The next day with a full battery, and hopefully more dry, I tried to start it and it would not turn over, it had a healthy, full powered " trying to turn over noise" but no connect. I tried it 2x then gave up. When the key was in the on position it however did not make the weird clicking noise anymore so I saw that as a plus.

I decided to wait another day to see if it would dry out more.

Then today I went out to try again. I also injected some fuel straight into the intake manifold to rule out it not getting fuel.
I tried to start and it would barely even TRY to turn over. I can't imagine the battery is dead again after only trying to start it 2x and it being 24 hrs since I last tried to start.... so I then tried to check for spark w the spark plug that was in there. No spark. I tried to check for spark again with a new spark plug and no spark. I took the boot off and cleaned the inside of the connectors w a q-tip but they seemed fine. I put it back on and tried to check for spark again w new plug, no spark.

I'm guessing something may have shorted out w/ the spark plug wires/area. If this is the case would the scooter even be able to TRY to turn over w/ out spark? make the rear rear rear rear noise?

The scooter is parked by door, covered and crying and I am off to WALK to the store. Sigh. At least my new apartment has laundry out my back door and the grocery store and guy are not more than a 5 block walk each way for me.

Any suggestions?

It is her second scooter.
Possibly buying a second scooter identical to the troublesome first one might not have been the best idea.

It does seem cursed.

Seems time to take off enough body panels so you can see all of the connections.

Unhook the battery. (put on charger)

Take a small bottle similar to your primer bottle and put pure alcohol, in it, also get a can of spray silicone grease.

Now what you have to do is carefully unhook each connector, one at a time, flush with alcohol, then tighten the connectors as needed, spray with the silicone grease, so to waterproof the connection in the future, reconnect it and proceed to the next.

This way you can clean, check and waterproof all connections.

Reinstall body plastic, battery, etc., test.

Should take a couple of hours.

HOLY MACARONNI!!! One of the problems you mentioned is It would REV but would not Excelerate(that is probably your CVT BELT or Clutch Slipping Due to getting soaked.

As for the Electrical OUCH!! water could have gotten into the STATOR and burned the crap out of it(HOPE NOT). The Stator is by your MUFFLER it has the fan on the FLYWHEEL and the Stator is behind the FLYWHEEL.
It could also be your CDI that went south or is wet and or shorted out. Hope you have some HOT WEATHER open it up and let it dry out some and then try it.

If its ELECTRICAL it is not going to be FUN IN THE SUN as they say. NO SPARK Could be any number of things, Stator, Pick up Trigger, CDI, Coil, Relay.

I DO NOT KNOW HOW YOU CHECKED for SPARK since it barely turns the engine over. So you MAY HAVE SPARK lets hope the problem not turning over is the RELAY.

You could try to see if it is the RELAY that is easy to check.
Take a Screwdriver or Pliers and TOUCH BOTH TERMINALS on it and see if it SPINS your STARTER. NOW IT WILL SPARK when you touch both terminals so be prepared for that(HEHE).

Thanks Jeff, the next thing on my schedule of maintenance stuff to do is check all connections anyway I only bought the same scoot again because its all I can afford. $750 new. Next price up on the beach for scooters was $3,000. Oh well Im learning a lot.

You said both terminals on the RELAY. Where is the RELAY and what does it look like? I'm prepared for the spark. Rubber handle on the screw drivers should be enough protection?

At the very least Im glad Im local to all I need right now so I'm not as screwed w /out the scooter as I was. I just already miss joy riding on it. Wow 4 days now w/ out it. I guess I didn't realize it was quite that long since Ive been so busy unpacking

Shannon , You have a meter don't you ?

check your grounds , check the engine ground , check the frame ground . Take a pic of your meter so I can read the different settings . Go to the auto part store and ask for" dielectric grease" or" nygel" on the label should say "hydrocarbon" . try to keep it off your skin it will dry in out . Use gloves !

I dont have a meter. What does that do? Read power output of things? What is the grease for? Good tip on keeping it off the skin

it will keep the moisture off the wire connections and out of the wires . Your going to need to get a meter , do you have a harbor freight store near you ?

Here is what your RELAY looks like they are usually close to the battery. See those two terminals those are the ones you jump.

The way it works is the battery connects to it and then from the RELAY it connects to the Starter. It has a contact inside that is activated by the START BUTTON so when you press the start button the contact makes a connection to the other post inside and sends the VOLTAGE to the Starter.
So jumping those two terimals is like pushing the Start Button it will send the juice to the STARTER. You can turn on the Key and try it and see if jumping it and if it spins your starter your scoot may start.

Oh ok I know where that is. So solenoid and relay is the same thing? I replaced the solenoid on my old car so I kinda know about it. Jumping the terminals is holding to pieces of metal w rubber on the handle to them? I dont have to hit the start button? Jumping them may start it? ( thanks )

Great, yea turn the key on and it may start IF THE SPARK PLUG IS GETTING SPARK.

sounds like you owned an 80's or early 90's ford . Here is a quick was to displace water from the connections , I call it blow job in a can , most use to clean off key boards , you put the straw in the nozzel and it is compressed air in a can . Shannon please let me know if you don't care for my sexually charged descritions . I'm just a ball breaker I mean no harm at all . Use the spray and disconnect the connectors and blow both sides out , then apply the nygel to both halfs of the connectors and to the back where the wires enter the plug . You can pull the light bulbs and put some of the gel to the base of the socket . Have you ever wrote on a cake with icing in the squeeze bag . the nygel is about the same consistance ans the icing maybe a little thicker . if you pull the plugs off the switches squeeze some into the switches and the plugs .

john i dont have a habor freight near me, not much near me here. We have one auto parts store on the other side of the island, thats about it. the old car i replaced my solenoid on was my first car ( 85 mercury lynx ) which was like the old square looking ford escorts. It was named the death trap by my friends, total piece of crap, tomato red that i painted black with glossy outdoor house paint and a foam brush. bungee cords holding the door shut. lmao. I make " sexually charged descritions " about 90% of the day so no worries here I have the dirty mind of the average man or prob worse. i grew up around boys and 99% of my friends are male Yes ive written on a cake w icing, i used to do it professionally thanks for the info
