It was hard for me to get my fingers down in there so I crammed a paper towel around the edge of it to see if i could find any wetness and I coudlnt. However I turned my scooter off 30 min ago and the carb is warm so if it was wet it would have dried by now. Ill check next time its day light out right after I drive it. Is that really bad news if it gets under the gold cap. I know flooding is not good but does flooding just mean i have to wait for it to " calm down " and it will be okay or can that do serious damage? Thanks!

Also on your locking problem usually its is the "U" bracket on the seat itself that my needs to be moved a little BACK or Forward, so when you push it down the seat down it swings the latch over it and holds it. Alley

Thanks. Ya ive been trying to move the seat a little forward and back and trying different things. It seems to just go into the foam on the bottom of the seat. Not sure how its attached or if there is a way to get it off

It is usually a bracket with the U on it and TWO screws or bolts on each side holding it to whatever. The seats usually have a hard plastic frame with the foam and cover stapled underneatch.
Ok let me ask this Which part of the Latch does the KEY move to RELEASE it. The Bottom Latch in your picture or the part on the seat? Alley

i just got that pic off the internet. its what the latch on the back of my scooter looks like. i turn my key to the right to release it. there have been times where i could just close it and push down and it would latch/lock
and other times...
id have to turn the key to the right, hold it there, push seat down at the same time, then turn then back to the left to get it to lock.
i dont really know if its just supposed to be able to close on its own from shutting and pushing it. im assuming u should be able to just do that

its dark out so had to use a flash light, may have to take better pics or check it out when its light out the hook on my scooter goes into hole in the plastic and into foam. this is my latch on the scooter the bigger piece of it sticking up on the left (almost straight up but kinda diagonal) that is towards the back of the scooter and that piece has to be pressed all the way back and down so its horizontal for it to latch

Well yes any gas coming out of anywhere is NOT GOOD. You have to find out WHEN it happens, When your riding it or after you shut it off and is sitting for awhile. So before you go riding check it out then after you ride it and going to park it check it again try to find out WHEN the gas comes out.
It could of been a little piece of something got picked up when you took the bowl off and cleaned it. You may have layed the bowl and or Carb on something and it picked up a tiney piece of dirt or something and IS OR DID get into the INLET FUEL HOLE and is not shutting off the Fuel from coming into the bowl and overfilling it.
The seat you probably can EYEBALL it from the side to see WHERE the U is going to hit the BOTTOM LATCH then you should be able to tell which way it needs to be adjusted. It may be that It is hitting the Top Part of the Latch and is why it would latch when you held it OPEN with the KEY and then LET go.

K ill look when I drive it again when i turn the key the latch shows no movement at all. however if i press the latch all the way down with a flat screw driver head and get it to lock down and i turn the key it will release, so luckily it wont lock me out of the trunk when it DOES shut. the release works. it just doesnt want to catch the hook to latch. I can watch the hook hit the latch and push it down but it only seems to push it about 1/2 way down and it has to go all the way back to catch. ill mess with it again tomorrow. ive gotta get ready to go out thanks for your help

COOL!! so you already know WHY it will not latch. Either the BOTTOM has to come up or the one on the seat itself has to come down lower. So whichever one is easier to raise or lower that is the one you should attempt to adjust. Now don't go crazy tonight just have a couple of EGGNOGS, don't want to hear anything about a DUI on a SCOOTER ;D Alley

Well looks like you can build up the BOTTOM LATCH I Think I can see A bolt holding it down So you can take the Latch off and cut out something to match the bottom to raise it up some. Alley

mine has a bolt on each side holding it to the frame. there is enough threads on them to add several washers under the latch and still put the nut on to hold it in place. that might be all it will take to get it latching every time. john

Hehe. Thanks. I built it up about 1/3" right after I first posted about the latch problem but it didn't work. I haven't tried again to mess with the latch since we hit a cold spell ( cold for FL) 40s-50s. Which doesnt sound THAT bad but these buildings here dont have heat so the loals say in as much as possible and under blankets LOL. I can go out and its nice and refreshing but when i come back in its not too easy to warm up once the building looses the heat it was holding. Im going to look around the top of the seat next. Maybe I can take it apart without " un-upholstering" it and lower the hook some how. Alley only 1/2 glass of champagne for me at the beach. I wont drive if ive had even 1 drink. My scooter started and drove no problem to get to the fireworks at the beach for NYE ( 25 blocks or so) and thank God for the scooter. I found a scooter/motorcycle only parking spot just 2 blocks from the fireworks so I got lucky. Driving back the scooter did fine too, it idled for awhile because I was stuck in traffic but no issues. I couldnt check for wetness around the bottom of the bowl near the gasket because it was dark out but will the next time I drive my scooter. Fireworks at the beach: Oh and now the left blinker is sometimes working, sometimes not, sometimes delayed after I turn it on. I need it to work when i turn it on, ya know. Maybe a loose wire or something. If I have to open up the front pannel I want to replace the plastic over the headlights as its cracked and brownish/stained. So Im trying to find just that part online without all the housing for it. So no huge rush on getting into all that with the light but im aware of it and avoiding lefts for now LOL. Update 12:10pm - It took about 7 tries to start my scooter this morning. Not sure if it was because it was so cold out ( about 45 ) or because I didnt drive it yesterday. It drove fine after that. I took it out twice today. The left blinker was working too. LOL.

Remember your Carb Has A PUMP so when it is COLD I mean you haven't started the scoot for HOURS OR DAYS give the Throttle A COUPLE OF FULL QUICK TWISTS it will spray some gas into the INTAKE to PRIME IT for starting. Alleyoop

Thanks. Ive always done that anyway since my last scooter. It seemed to help it start easier when I was having starting issues. Remember how it would give me crap starting then once it was warmed up, no problems starting and we thought maybe it was the battery. I got a new battery and it was good for a month. Then the ignition button woudlnt start it, then the kick start broke and the brakes were beat, scratches on it and I mixed the wrong kind of oil ( didnt know what kind was already in it) so basicly i said screw it and sold it to a mechanic and started over with this one. I hope its just the cold weather and the not driving it for a day and it doesnt start not starting easily the first time and then eventually dieing. Can you tell I have scooter trust issues? LoL
