I'm not talking about the clothes kind either! My wife's sister needed some bucks because of D-I-V-O-R-C-E so I bought this fugly scooter off of her for $500.00: Who designed this thing? It looks like a genetic mutation of a normal scooter. I guess I could live with the way it looks (have to if I'm going to live with the significant other : but it runs like crap. It sat unused for about a year except for when the el-creepo ex got off his arse once in a while to start it. I've already dropped 80 bucks into a battery from a dirt bike shop and am not wild about pouring more money into it. It's got this emblem on the back: A buddy of mine who's kinda into scooters said this is CF moto which is a good scooter. Maybe so but this is what it does: 1. Starts but only after cranking it for about five minutes and nursing the throttle 2. Once it gets going it will run kinda OK after about 10 minutes 3. It does bog down with very much throttle so you have to slowly twist the throttle and nurse it up to speed. 4. If I shut it down for just a few minutes I have to go through the nurse Ratchet thing again to get it going. If I shut it down but start it back up right away it'll start pretty easy. 5. Top speed is 52 MPH by my GPS, is this normal? I've worked on bikes up to about 500cc but this thing is weird. The cylinder is verticle and there's no shifting, just twist the throttle (very slowly). There's a lot of hoses and a couple black plastic canisters on it too, I guess this is pollution stuff. I've already got some digs about this thing from my friends about the way it looks. Maybe if I can get it going right they'll shut up (I doubt it ). So is this Moto company OK? Any suggestions on getting it running right? Is there a manual somewhere for this thing? The loser ex-husband says he doesn't have a manual but he's not being helpful....he's being a real schlong about the whole thing. I just need a place to start on fixing this thing....HELP!

The CF Moto Fashion is a clone of the Honda Helix scooters, orignally sold in the early 80s.
Like most scooters, they have a CVT transmission, which means no shifting. If it sat for a year, then you should probably clean the carb and drain the gas tank and put in some fresh gas.
I do know that the top speed should be 65+, but I don't know much else about them, but I'm sure someone else will chime in... and Welcome to the Clinic.

I think that logo hasn't been on a Fashion since 2005. Do you know what year it is? the 10th digit of the VIN should identify it. That battery should be around $50-$60.. a YTX12-BS Manual is available from CFMOTO... www.cfmoto-us.com/html/downloadCust.aspx

Thanks for the info guys. I downloaded that manual Mr. Cookees and saw where the VIN is SUPPOSED to be. You guys won't frickin' believe this....the numbers were ground off with a grinder! I asked the significant other for the paperwork since I just gave her the cash for her sister and she was supposed to handle the DMV part. Guess what? Her sister just took the wad of cash and still hasn't got the wifey the title. I think this damn thing is stolen! Her sister won't answer her cell now she's obviously dodging me. Well, I still have to get it running, I'll do the gas tank thing Runningslow and see what happens. So back to my original question, are these things junk or what? In the mean time I don't know if i should contact the cops or not, they might just haul the piece o' crap off. Maybe I could turn it into a backyard grill, it kind of looks like one. Zoomer

Does your state have any re title permissions? Might try a search on that. Probably just take a few moments to find out. Can you find with dies what the original numbers might have been.? Or a tag somewhere else? Sure sounds like something wrong there. Which why I mentioned re titled if there is a new number put into the frame, maybe by a DMV person. .

I'm baaaaaaaaack!! Got sidetracked with some domestic problems but I finally got the mistake ok'd with the DMV. Turns out Mr. Cookees was right.....there was a sticker on the crossbar with enuf numbers to keep the state happy. Got some plates and the its running ok after I got some decent gas through it. Thing is...I did get a new battery but it keeps running down. I don't think its charging, any ideas on how to see if the charging system is working right? Zoomer

Set a multimeter to DC and put the red to red and black to black on the battery. Crank it up and give it a few revs, you should be getting around 13v to 14.5v DC. Let us know what you get. Rich

The voltage cutting in and out sounds like a bad or loose cable. I'd check all your battery cables and connections to the rectifier and stator. Then, if those are good, here's a link to the charging diagnostics in the Helix manual. It's pretty straightforward and easy to follow. If you need any help just let us know. Rich

OK, I think I'm getting somewhere. I pulled on the battery cables and one was loose and gunked up. I cleaned it with baking soda and wd40 and tightened it. The volts don't cut in and out but still not above 11 or 12. It says check the continity on the rectifier wires in the manual. Its been a while since I've worked on bikes what do I do? Zoomer

Their terminology is a little off on that page of the manual. They actually mean resistance in ohms. Use the chart they provide and put your multi probes on the pairs of wires as they describe with the meter set to resistance. Another inportant check on that page is battery drain when the key is off. Be sure to check that also. Rich

Try these checks from the Honda CN 250 site. It's essentially the same thing but a little more understandable. Rich

Ok I checked the stator output according to that link to the Honda site and I got 16 amps.....does that mean I need a new regulator? Zoomer
