I got a brand new Chinese sl250cc scooter and it starts but when you apply throttle it shuts off. Would it be a carborator problem or is it a electric problem.

How long are you letting it sit and idle? Are you twisting the throttle alot or a little before it dies? I would let it sit and idle for a good two or three minutes first and then try the throttle.

If you open the throttle just alittle bit it shuts off. Most of the time it just dies off on its own. When it starts the scooter just shakes it dosent run smooth at all.

Did you put on a new airfilter? Sometimes people think they can simply put on a performance airfilter without changing the jets to match and it causes a lean mixture. You also might have a fuel delivery problem and it's not getting enough gas. Have you cleaned the carb or set the valves? If it happens when you give it some throtte it's probably a gas issue. Rich

Welcome to the forum......sounds like the valves need to be adjusted....then adjust the idle...carb probs on a new scoot are not normally seen....how many miles....have you done a proper PDI (post delivery inspection)....change fluids....coolant 50/50 Preston or coolant made for an aluminum engine.......brake fluid DOT 3/DOT4....valve stems...trans lube 85w90 wt gear lube....charge the battery completely.....just a few things to think about...enjoy your ride..

Check the plug wire to be sure both ends are securely attached, and check the wires to the coil.
Check all vacuuum fittings to be sure you have no air leaks or disconnected hoses. It might be the diaphragm, but it's still new, so unlikely.
Let it idle for a while to heat up, then raise the idle speed tp keep it from dying out. Run it for a long time and keep giving it throttle to see if you can get the response back in the throttle.
It just sounds new so be patient and learn how to fiddle with the carb.

When you start it is it idleing at least around 2000 rpms? If not turn the IDLE SPEED SCREW Clockwise a little to get the Idle up. If it dies turning the IDLE SPEED screw then your carb is out of adjustment and you need to adjust the FUEL RATIO SCREW.
First try this TURN the FUEL RATIO screw all the way Clockwise Closed then turn it out COUNTER CLOCKWISE 2 1/2 turns and start it See if it acts better. If it starts and IDLES really high then Turn the IDLE SPEED SCREW COUNTER CLOCKWISE to lower the RPMS down to a reasonable level around 2000. Alleyoop
