Well I really do enjoy this thread. Years ago I bought this Norinco 1911A1 .45 semi-automatic, not really because I needed one, had a nice .38 revolver a woman friend gave me. But, it had my curiosity! It had been said; that you could take it apart and a Colt .45, put all the parts in a bag and shake them up, then assemble 2 working guns off the parts. That how well the Chinese had copied this gun! The only difference was the price, at that time I paid about $350 for the Norinco when the Colt was going close to $600? True the colt had walnut grips compared to look-a-like plastic. Now do not hold me to these prices this been many years and unimportant material objects do not fair well in my memory. We compared the gun with a Colt and another American brand, I not think it was Smith & Wesson. It shot as fast without jamming and could go a long time without cleaning before a jam. It was the same exact gun, only name. price, and where it was made. Though I never trust my life to an Automatic regardless of where it was made. The .38 has never failed and it not matter now dirty it been.
OK, now my story is done. Well prepare for the next.
My first scooter was a Honda minitrail 70 my mom and dad got me for Christmas when I was maybe 14? I did do some mods when the new wore off. About all I ever did was, change the oil, plug, carb jet when I installed a megaphone muffler, and adjust the Tappets (Valves), clean/adjust the chain, never oiled my chain. I just take it off and wash it from time to time. My Dad work in a Cotton Oil Mill and brought me a really nice chain that we cut out links to fit (that why I like chain, it always fits, unlike a belt specific). I never had any trouble with the Honda, just had fun and not spend a lot of money.
When I was 16 the Sheet hit the wind as I bought a Kawasaki 350 Bighorn? I think? Well the hoot on this was my Sister cosigned the loan and I paid for this bike! I worked part time rigging boats at a local dealer after school! Did not even have to have insurance, LOL, and that another story of talking to people! Now here the hoot, my Dad was so mad! LOL! He going like why the Hell did my sister cosign that loan!! My mom settled him down later that night, heee, and explained, I was making the payments, no one else! So, he brought me more chain! I never had any trouble with the Kawasaki, just had fun and not spend a lot of money.
When I was 23 years old I had a good job and a friend talked me into looking at Harley Davidson as I wanted the Honda V-65 they were showing on TV smoking the tire. I walked into the Fort Worth Harley shop and this salesman ask if he could help me and I said; "I want the biggest engine on the cheapest bike" It was the Superglide I think FHX something, but it was 80 c.i. 1340 cc this when they advertised also, put six more inches between your legs, they had gone from the 74 c.i. 1200 cc?? Well it was this really nice Candy Apple red with gold metal flake. There a lot more stories to this bike as all the others. I rode this Hog home from Texas to Arkansas and that all every one could say; "He goes to Texas and comes back on a Red Hog, Whoooo, Pig Soooie, Arkansas Razorbacks!" My Dad brought me some chain! I never had any trouble with the Harley, same routine as the others, just had fun and not spend a lot of money.
About 3-4 years ago I was in the Gander Mountain store and they had this Dazon Diamondback 50 cc on clearance for either $650/750, one day I look at the receipt, it with the Title. I drive the heck out of it as I did all the other bikes, do my same maintenance routine. I never had any trouble with the Dazon, just having fun and not spend a lot of money. Dad could not bring me a chain, he gone now, and it uses a belt. I remember they did have these leather belts they used on slow RPM stuff, was really cool. Would have been nice to tried one, LOL! Or modified the Dazon for a chain. My Dad could do magic with any thing mechanical!
Mechanics is not hard, maybe finding parts, but, most of the world knows the game. I can make a carburetor out of a women perfume bottle, that all they are, atomizers! So, I guessing the Chinese can copy a Japanese/American Carb or anything else, just like they did the Colt .45? I not had any trouble just do the regular maintenance, heck, for the money I can change my oil every month using that Tech brand WalWort sell. Guess what, it works too!
But, we do have our personal preferences and disasters. I have bought things that do not work, been lucky on the big price stuff. Many people like Fords, and others like Chevy and we cut down the others. I never had any trouble with those either, same routine as the others, just had fun and not spend a lot of money.
But, I do respect the dilemma of those that do have trouble and believe me, when I do, I have a hard time regaining my trust when there are others to choose from.
Now that I talked your ears off, I go get a beer and play with my Titty Grips. Hope there some remember those! LOL!
