I'm now on my fourth oil change, and I have all my old oil sitting in my garage. My method is to take a plastic container and line it with a plastic bag and drain the oil into the bag, with the goal of taking the bag to a gas station for oil recycling.
No matter what I've used the bags have leaked, and I now have three containers with leaked oil, along with plastic bags with oil in them too.
I could use some insight into how to do the next one right. Thanks in advance!!

I drain the oil from my scooter into a small cat litter tray that will actually fit under the bike, then I dump that into the larger oil drain pan that I use on my cars. Once I've managed to fill that, after a few scooter and car oil changes, I start pouring that used oil back into the original oil bottles with a funnel. After that, in theory, I take them to Wal-Mart or AutoZone for recycling. However, at the moment, I have half a dozen or more 5 quart bottles sitting in my garage.

I use a small pan then transfer it to a 5 gal gas container when the container is full it's off to Advance Auto to be emptied. In the "good old days" we would dig a hole and dump the oil in the hole of dump it down the storm drain.

We would drive in the woods and drop it on the ground. If only we knew what we were doing at the time...

By law, places that sell motor oil are required to maintain a place to dump it in order for it to be disposed of properly. What I do with my motor oil (I have the silverwing and a truck and a car that I service) is I when I purchase the oil I get it in gallon or 5 quart jugs and save the jugs for the old oil when I drain it out. Then I take it to the Oreily auto parts up the street where I buy most of my oil and they have a container to dump it in. If you're asking what do I literally drain it into, I have a round oil pan that I bought from wal mart for less than $5.

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the bake pan/transfer method, and on scootdawg I got a bunch of suggestions about using half an old milk gallon container. All great suggestions, Alleyoop notwithstanding!!! When I first started driving thirty years ago the preferred method was to drain the oil while parked over a storm drain. how times have changed.

I rinse out old plastic gallon milk bottles, Punch bottles and anything else we generate, let them dry and fill them with oil. When I have a few I take them to my local garage and they recycle the oil.
