Trying to figure out why it won't charge the battery. I changed the voltage regulator checked all the wires. Working with Jim to determine if maybe it's the stator. I hope not since my neighbor has been saying "it's the stator Chinese stators have a reputation for being bad". I so don't want him to be correct.

Wow Ger you sure have had a challange with that Maggie... I thought your checked and was geting the ac voltage from the stator. I did that check on mine and than just changed the regulator and all has been good

Ger Lee gave me these directions to check the charging so I have copied for you

Is the battery charging off the stator? Doesn't sound like it. Someone (Lefty I think) sent me a link of a guy in Oregon that rebuilds stators and can increase the power they supply to the battery some. Sounds like you may have either a bad stator or a malfunctioning regulator. You need to check continuity between wires 1&2, 1&3 & 2&3 thats ohms. If you don't have continuity between any of these sets wires you have a bad stator. if continuity is good then check or even better before you do that check the charging out put. Put the multimeter in volts setting put the meter leads on the bat. pos to pos neg to neg. Slowly increase the RPM it should read between 13 & 14.5 v dc. if it doesn't, check stator as stated before. If you want to check rect. reg. you must have a digital multimeter!! You have to set the multi meter to the diode setting. It looks like a triangle with a line through it and and across it. You have three white wires and a red and a black wire coming out of your rect. You have to perform forward and reverse bias tests. There is 12 tests in all. Disconnect the plug to the rect. Put you pos. meter lead on the red wire. As stated before the white wires are 1-2 & 3. Put the neg. meter lead on the white wires individually 1,2 & 3. You should not get any voltage if you do it is bad. (that was checks 1-3) Now take you neg meter lead and put it on the red wire and do the same as above wires 1,2,3. again you should get nothing. (checks 4,5,6) If you do it is bad. Now put your red meter lead (pos) on the black wire and check 1,2,3 again you should have .3-8v is the general spec. (checks 789)Now again put your blk meter lead (neg) and put it on the red wire and check 1,2,3 with the red meter lead, you should get .3-.8 volts if you dont your gonna need a new one.(checks 10,11,12). Mike I done a whole lot of checking. Put a new regulator in changed the CDI. Bought a new $100+ battery tried to charge it but it would not go past 11.7 volts. Called company today they said BAD battery. They are sending me a new one. If I didn't think the dogs and wife would miss me I'd push the trike out on to a major road sit on it and wait for a semi.

I wonder what is next. I haven't even gotten the new front tire installed. Good thing I didn't buy it yet.

Chin up Ger...If anyone had problems mine drove 2 owners crazy for awhile...I think you are way down south from me as I am close to Tarpon Springs. I know that I had a lot of trouble with the wire connectoer they use, cheap, the ends would pull at the connector and was had to detect. I would help ya out if we were not so fare apart. I tell ya I miss not working on the Magnum sometimes, I have sold mine but it will not leave for a week or so, was riding it the other day till the cold from came in. I think I got a total of all check points of over 124 voltd off my stator

GER: Patience my friend we will help you get thru this. There are two issues I see here. 1) if you have eliminated a bad battery then we need to look at what the voltage (amperage) is your batterty is receiving at both idle running and high RPM running. At idle you will be barely above the natural state of your battery. At much higher RPM your battery should be around 14 volts or so of charge. 2) Lights play an important part of this equation and can cause serious charging problems if they are either faulty or using more than you are charging. So far now do not use the lights at all in seeing if your battery and charging system are working properly. Once that part is solved then add the light power into the whole equation. Just sitting there your battery should be 12volt are higher. Crank up and idle of course higher than 12 probably in the 13.2 range. If that is not happening then suspect is battery, regulator, stator in that order. Lefty did I get this all right and would you and Mike concur??

My man Jim says based on my readings it's the stator. Now I need to figure out how to get the old one out. Maybe I'll send mine out for a rebuild and hold the factory replacement as a backup.
So who rebuilds them and how much?
Does anyone sell a better one? I hate to wait for a rebuild.
Who has replaced theirs in one of these engines? It looks like the muffler will have to come off. The stuff I see on YouTube shows taking of the flywheel. Will I need a puller? I have a wheel puller would it be strong enough?
More fun to be had. I may change a bunch of the wiring plugs while I got he time. I doubt it will be back on the road till after the new year. Holiday time will be really busy for us this year.

Forgot, replacement battery for the new one I bought is on the way.

I have never been inside that cover Ger. I should think a inpact wrench and wheel puller and your set. Jim or that dab burn rabbit can probely can help you there
