I had to cut off one of the tabs to mount the exhaust because it just was not fitting behind the oil dipstick. My Question is where does the rubber clamp go? And did I do the right thing by removing this tab? Attachments:

When I was 13 my parents bought me a Honda mini trail 70, really wish I kept it. Anyway, being young I wanted to swap the stock Exhaust (after riding a while w/o the baffle) for a megaphone (true some may not know what that was/is, but, it was cool back then to a 13 year old). Well the only megaphone was made to fit the Honda SL70, regular looking trail bike. Soooo, I found it connected the the head exhaust OK, but the rest of the fit required modifying. I just took a coat hanger wire and wrapped around the flange to bolt it up and wire that to my shock. Now this was really cool as it would swing out going into a left turn! Yea, only something a teenager can appreciate. I really can not give you a good answer, but, assume it needed some modification to remove the dilly dally as it was in the wrong place for your situation. May want to grind and sand it down to look like that how it was made. That rubber thing looks like a vibration damper. Something to cut down on wear mostly but also may provide some noise/vibration limits to your butt. From what I see, try to move it to where you can bolt it to something and it all fit snug, I not think you want it swinging around like my megaphone. That about all I can offer. Take Care, Sam I am.

that pipe and muffler can not move around. it must be attached to the motor, and if it moves it will crack some where and break off. the bigger and heavier the muffler the more apt it is to move. the engine bounces up and down as it goes over bumps in the road and if the pipe and muffler do not stay put and move with the engine it will break. it can not be attached to the frame in any way.
you may have to make a bracket to attach the clamp in picture to the rear of the engine some where near the rear shock. any thing that is part of the engine is probably safe to mount to as long as there is enough metal there to support the weight of the muffler john

My metal/rubber strap broke so I ended up using a piece of stainless steel. This is the way my bracket fit on and the strap that came with it was supposed to bolt on like this:
I'm not sure what tab your referring to but John's right, the muffler must be supported and move with the engine or it will break off at the exhaust port. Rich

My only concern on that pipe is it is REALLY close to the plastic fan housing...you may have to put a shield on it there
