update: got a hold of my close friend who is a pro air brush artist, hes offered to do a free paint job on the new 250 as a source of advertisement. also got a hold of a custom upholster that i also know, cant get it for free but can get a good discount for the new seat. also making a list of things to buy for it in the near future. progress on my roketa has halted due to this new project. i will take a vote. all in favor of me posting the progress, let me know, all who appose, i guess dont post any response lol.

It lives! The throttle response will get better with time and use. If it doesn't have an accelerator pump it will hesitate some if you yank the throttle open too fast. Also Hondas are known for being cold blooded. At least the engine isn't making strange noises. Not bad for a thirty year old bike.

WOW!! Very nice for $300 buckoos a Honda that sounds good does not appear to be burning oil little TLC and you have a nice bike. Those Honda motors usually will run forever. And yes pictures of you freshen up the bike as you go along that would be nice. Alleyoop

it has 40K miles. i took it on a few short rides around the block but not too far as the chain tried to shoot off of the bike when it undergoes too much torque, so i have to let off of the clutch really slow coming out of every gear lol. after the rides when i roll up in my yard and let it idle, the throttle response is dead on, when i took the video, i had just turned it on first time that day. another thing is the bike made me out to be a liar lol. the starter just whines and spins when you press the button but for some odd reason when i started it in the video, it fired right up, guess it knew it was going on youtube and had to make its self presentable it will be about a month or so before it is road ready, a few things to clear up, such as the brakes ( i really dislike the drum brakes it has both front and rear. ) need to be fixed up due to having to almost hit the brakes all the way to slow down a little, and the clutch needs a little free play.

If you ride it within reason, change the oil once and awhile it will last darn near forever. Most motorcycles are overbuilt for about three years of clowns flogging on them. Then they're either scrapped or fixed by the next owner. People who respect the equipment will be stuck with them forever. 40k is more than possible.

That motorcycle has the same engine as the Rebel and 250 Nighthawk. Jacks Rebel Warehouse in Sanford Fla. has new and used parts. I have ordered from them and they are great. Change your oil every 1,000 miles, keep a clean air filter and you can get better than 80,000 miles on the over built under stressed engine. There are Honda Rebel forums out there if you need help. Great find.

Thanks bullet. I didn't know about that parts place in sanford. I will be giving them a call. I've located the rebel forums but i like the homely feel of this forum better. This bike (cm 250) is the predecessor of both the night hawk and the rebel.

Didn't you say your wife rides the rebel? I like how that one has disk brakes. That's a conversion i want to do later on down the road

Yes she does. She also rides our Royal Enfield and when we switch motorcycles during a ride at a red light it draws a few stares. Our neighbor stored the Rebel in his house right after he broke his ankle at work. 22 years later he got married and his new wife wanted it out of the house. She offered it to me for $100.00. New tires, battery, petcock, oil change, and a tank cleaning treatment and we have a first year,1985 Rebel with 172.4 miles on it. It fits Debbie well and we both enjoy riding it. This is the same neighbor who gave me a 100% there 1970 Triumph 250 Tiger Cub in need of a ground up resto. which I lack the talent and funds to do it right. I in turn gave it to a guy I know who restores Triumphs with the agreement that I get to ride it and if he makes money on it I get a taste of the action. On one ride I was on the Rebel, Debbie on the RE. I pulled up at a red light in full gear when a poser on a very fat cruiser wearing a wife beater and his best crash hankie started laughing at me. Debbie pulled up between us and his jaw dropped. Priceless.
