DAMN!! Beat me to the punch as they say, BUT if your scooter starts up and runs your COIL,CDI and Pickup COil and Stator are working. So what does that leave you might say, well the Battery and the Regulator/Rectifier. Now if your battery has got dead cells it will not take a charge. So if you have a Battery Charger put the charger on and see if it charges the battery if it will not charge up get a new battery. If the battery is good then its your Regulator Rectifier. You can also take the battery out and take it to an autoparts store to have them check the battery they will test it and tell you if it is bad. Alleyoop

I would add an extra ground. I would explain how but alley does it better and with pics too. Oh what the hay, your scout has two grounds. 1 is on the frame somewhere near the battery compartment, and the other is located on your cooling fan cover. What you want to do is take the ground that is closer to the battery compartment and make sure to grind the paint off under the wire. Then from that spot, add another wire. Take that new wire and run it to the valve cover. Next, remove the wire from the cooling fan case. Run it to the valve cover as well to connect to the same spot you just put a wire on. Also if you have an alarm system,i would consider removing it. My alarm drains my battery in 2-3 days even if it is not engaged. Hope that helps. Also John is great on the electrical aspect of sports.

There goes alley reliving his war glory days lol. Also you can use your digital m multi meter to see what readings you get at various points on electrical system, both running and not running.

I am puzzeled . Why multiple grounds. Don't misundestand. We often use the chassis as a wire. I ground my trailer fram to my car chassis and ground each of my tailer lights to a convenient place on the trailer frame. I run a strap from the engine to the frame on the car so now I can use the engine/tansmission as a ground "wire". ON a scoot with all it's plastic the builder has to find a way to connect thee lights to both the positive and negative terminals of the battery.
So of course the cooing fan must be connected to the negative terminal of the battery as well as the positive termnal.
I know I use the term ground to imply negative side of the circuit. Or is there something else going on?
Thanks cheers lefty2

two grounds are better than one... the engine is grounded through a wire to the frame, so is the battery. The stator can either float from the engine and be grounded with a ground wire or a bolt to the engine...
Grounds on scooters are a problem the more you have the less chance a bad ground will effect the entire scooter electrical.

no prob! glad we could help yea my rectifier was in a bad spot too, and the way the factory had it rigged up it had ALOT of tension on the plug, i had to take it off and turn it upside down so it had alot of slack. an extra ground wouldnt hurt though, but most importantly, taking the paint off of the grounds so they get a better ground. i also took the paint off of the spot where the rectifier sits on the frame and also did a little grinding on the bottom of the rectifier its self, reason being, is that the unit grounds itself out through its metal case to the frame, which in my case, was only though the screw that was holding it on. glad your charging up again. dont those small batteries cost a boat load?! i could have purchased two car sized batteries for the price of the little ones. i just hope you went with a 9amp instead of a 6amp ( stock for 150cc ) i had a hard time finding a 6 when i was replacing mine and i seen that 6-9amp batteries all cost the same. did some measuring and the 9 still fit in my battery compartment. went to a 9 which makes it fire almost always on the first button push.
