Know that I know my scooter is running pretty good .I was out on a ride today and I noticed it did not have the response it had before I replaced the variator .When I hit a good hill it would zip right on over with the old variator .I just don't have that know .Are the weights in the new variator to heavy or to light .They are 13g rollers.I want the response back and I do not know what to order .I am also seeing the sliders like the DR.Pulley sliders are they better than the rollers ? I still have the old rollers I will try to get them weighted tomorrow .Will one roller be the weight I'm looking for .Like in the new variator does one roller way 13g or is that a total of all 6?

Each roller or slider will weigh say 13grams etc.. Yes I would say you are looseing rpms with the 13gram weights and will not have the zip. Dr. Pulley Sliders are real good but they are twice as expensive as rollers. Since you know your new rollers are 13g I would get 11 and 12 gram rollers to decide which one gives you what you want. Also getting 11 and 12s and you have 13s then you can experiment with different grams: Example: 1. All 11s 2. All 12s 3. 3-11s & 3-12s= 11.5 4. 3-12s & 3-13s= 12.5
When you find the Gram weights you like on your scoot you can then order the Dr. Pulley Sliders when they wear out. At Wide Open Throttle you want to be running no higher than 7500 rpms and most of the time around 7000 or so with good top end. Alleyoop

I went to a friends pawn shop today and he had the scales to way my old rollers .They where like 12.9-12.8 .So I'm going to say they are 13g.Does a new variator need a break in time or should I have done something special when I installed the new one ?I just made sure the rollers where all in place and installed it .

i would say that your 13s are way to heavy to have all 13s in it. i would go with a 11/12 ratio or maybe for a tad bit more top end i would try a 11/13. glad to hear your scoot is running good now.

Yep if they weigh 12.8 12.9 they are SUPPOSED TO BE 13grams. You will find that the cheaper weights maybe a couple will come in at the advetised grams and the rest under the advertised grams. If you have a tach on that scoot could you tell me what the RPMS are at WOT? That is very important on what gram weights you would need and also if it is hilly in your area or mostly pretty flat terrian. ALleyoop

Alley is does have a tach ,but I have not got it working yet.Do u think I should get that fixed before I continue with getting new roller weights?I have a lot of hills and flat terrain both in my area. There is a 2 wire connector that comes out next to the spark plug wire .Could that have something to do with the tach ,or do i just need to run a new wire from the tach to one of the wires off the coil ?I think I understand what u mean by the weights and the tach ..The right weights will give max rpms with out damaging the engine .I am also a good size guy .I'm in the lower 200lb range .Will that also affect the roller weight size ?

I would get the tach fixed as alley will show you how to fine tune your cvt. Your weight plays a big part on how you will set it up. And no, variators require no break in period.

Hook the power wire that comes out of the ta.ch into the black wire with yellow stripethat comes out of the cdi. You will get a good reading.

Is that one of the wires that go down to the coil its self .I remember someone telling me that color wire in one of my other post. I looked for it Saturday when I was working on my scoot and I don't remember a black and yellow stripe .

Take a pic of you did for us, including the pins and the color wires. It was me that told you to do that. We will help you get it figured out. Another thing you can do is start at your coil pack and check the color wires that go to it and trace them back to the cdi.

We need to determine if you have an AD or DC cdi most common on the 150s are AD but double check to be sure

Not all tachs can use a direct connect.. some require the wire to be wrapped 4 or more times abound the high tension wire. Try that first...it uses magnetic induction...
If you hook it directly to the ignition wire you will be pumping 150+++ volts AC into the tach... which will fry it... sure as snit...
AC or DC it doesn't matter...

I would get the tach fixed first before experimenting with the weights, it is very hard to tell what rpms the motor is turning if your not familiar with the different sounds. Of course you can tell if the motor is screaming that is easy to determine. But you cannot determine if your rpms are 500-800 to low or to high, even 1000 rpms if you are not familiar. You can be running 1000 less that what you need it makes a big difference in power and speed. And you can control all this with the weights and Contra spring if needed(but rarely).
The ideal setup for your CVT is when going up a hill the RPMS STAY THE SAME only your MPH will drop. That means the motor is produceing the same power you had on the flat and it is just the weight that is making it slow down going up the hill. Alleyoop

Most tachs you can wire to the cdi. If you wire it after the coil is when you get insane readings. I would wrap the tach wire around the main coil wire if you want to try the easy way first.
