Hey guys, I am thinking of buying a 1979 motobecane mobylette 50v for $200. From what I have seen they are going between $500-$1000.
Body looks good. He says it runs, but needs tune up.
Think it's worth the price? I would love to have a project for restoration.

you just answered the question your self. 500-1000 Ha, that's true to a degree. I did a quick search for about ten minutes, so from what I have seen ain't much. Old ancient proverb..."there is wisdom in a multitude of counselors. "

This would be a very cool project:
I doubt you're going to be able to get parts so if you're pretty handy with welding and fabrication you should be good. For $200.00 what can you lose? I'd put it in the middle of the living room but I doubt the wife would care for it. Rich

I am not a big fan of French bikes but some folks seem to like them. Depending on where you live, in nice shape, I would say 500-600 but I doubt 1000. Here is where you want to ask questions and find parts. www.mopedarmy.com/forums/list.php?2

I worked on one those a year or so ago. Try www.mopedjunkyard.com they have some parts for them.Be careful these can become a money pit in a hurry.

If that was in my area I would probably have it in my garage by now. I am looking for a 50 myself, not necessarily an antique, just that a rider who doesn't have an endorsement can ride.

He also said that they are going for $500-$1000. I was simply letting him know that there is no way he would re-sell it for $1000 once it is fixed up. People say all the time that, "fixed up" it would be worth this or that in the hopes that you will buy it.

Those prices are what they are going for around here, at least in my quick search of craigs list and some other recyclers. Well, I bought the ped for $180. It ran, but would not stay idling, however, it doesn't matter. I already have the motor off...tearing it down. I just want to see if I can strip it down and put it back together with newer parts.

I have the whole thing stripped down..well just the crank is attached. I have been cleaning all the parts and chrome. Just ordered new cables for brakes etc, and new rings as I broke the old ones trying to put the motor back together.
I spend $65.00 bucks...total investment $245
Before I stripped it down I was able to get it running and cruised around the block a couple times, so at least I know everything is functional. I will have my wife take some pics soon so I can post them.
