Got me.. it screws in and then something clips on to the end of the post...like a spring clip
Probably something to do with body work?

Maybe from the Sidestand or centerstand looks like it may hold a spring.

I am not sure either, I thought it came out of the crankcase but its not on any of my schematics.

No its not hollow all the way through but there is something "in" it.

In the crankcase it may have something to do with the cam chain guides...
