Hi all, I was inspecting my scooter getting ready to change the fluids when I noticed this. Take a look at the pic below. You can see a hose on the left that is cut off and runs to nowhere, and it appears to have some gritty stuff coming from it (or it just may be dirty). This is on the rear wheel just below the drive chain. The bolt on the right, facing down, is the drain bolt for the drive oil (I think). Does anybody have any idea what this hose is or where it's supposed to go to? My scooter has been running fine but it definitely surprised me to see a cut off hose like that... Thanks in advance for any help! The people on this board have been incredibly helpful. sine

Is your a 2 stroke and did you buy it new or used? The reason I ask is that looks like its the Oil injecting systems hose. Are you mixing oil with the gas now? Take a picture of your Carb left and right side to see if someone either changed the carb or your carb still has the oil line going into it. Alleyoop

According to a few websites I checked it's a 4-stroke. I bought it brand new from a dealer (and paid them for assembly). So we can be sure it's set up in a stock fashion. I'm not mixing oil with my gas. Never was I ever told to mix oil and gas for my scooter... Here's a pic I have showing my carb... if this isn't good enough I'll take a closer one tomorrow... Thank again for the help!

Yep it is a 4 stroke and you have a CVK carb, so that may just be vent tube But I would think a vent tube would be on the top or at least near the top for the tranny. But Looking at it closer is that a WIRE sticking out of the hose or just something else. Some used to have a Rev Limter that attached to the CVT maybe if it has a wire in it that is what it is and they cut it. Alleyoop

That looks similar to the setup on my Pegasus. Probably if you loosen that bolt right next to the tube in question the transmission oil will drain out through the tube. If that doesn't drain the oil the bolt further to the right pointing down can be completely removed to drain the transmission. Rich

Alleyoop: it's not a wire, in there, it's just road junk. I checked.
I think Bashan has it right. It looks like this little hose was designed to be an oil drain spout. At least, that would make the most sense.

Well best thing to do and really find out is either loosen the bolt next to the spicket to see what they heck it does. Alleyoop

maybe its a pressure/temp release valve that under high enough pressure/heat, it will allow some of the fluid to escape thus relieving pressure/heat? it looks as if it has had some trans fluid come out of it at some point. JMO

OK guys that has steel wool in the plastic tube?... it is probably a breather... why it is on the bottom of the transmission I don't know...it may be seperated from the oil and vents the gear box.. like the standard tube that runs off the top and down the rear of the CVT.
I have never seen this anywhere before.. but it looks factory made.
'Don't worry, be happy'.. a plastic fish on a walnut told me that...

Sprocket, I don't think there's steel wool in there. It doesn't seem like a breather. I still think Alleyoop is right, it's probably an oil spigot. Like he said though, there's only one way to find out - loosen the bolt next to the tube.
I'm going to be changing the oil this weekend, I'll post about how that works out.

Definitely, it's a breather/vent tube for the CVT case. All Peace Sports scooters started having them last year. I just remove them as they are superfluous. Like you I originally thought they were drain tubes for the gear oil but no, nothing came out.
Some motors have the plug plumbed directly into the vacuum system so it creates a negative pressure in the CVT case to "help" with cooling. I just rip it off before I sell any scooter. It ends up just clogging the CVT with engine vapor and the belts started slipping.

Thank you Greg... from what I understand Peace Sports scoots are very similar in design to my Taotao.
I guess I'll just pop the little tube off. It's already getting clogged with road junk anyways.
Next time I leave my native Boston for Maine, I'll try and stop by your shop! There are no good dealers of chinese scooters here in the Boston area. The place I bought mine from was the best around and even they were pretty shady.
