oh ok, yeah when i put the chain on i just pulled it tight in the middle and then popped it on to the can sprocket, so slack was probably close to even. So ill be order a chain sometime this week. Would you know a good place to buy the parts from? like the oil seal and chain? i found somewhere for chain but not sure what the size of the oil seal is that i need.

How do we tell if we have a long or short case? I guess it makes a difference in the gasket for the CVT cover?

Don't bother with a gasket for the CVT cover they rip apart all the time just about everyone does not put one back on. So save your money on that one. Alleyoop

Oh ok, another thing we looked at was buying a whole new engine because with the money we have already put into the engine and what it is going to cost for the timing chain stuff and there was a noise coming from the engine we think it might be the clutch, but were thinking of spending the 400ish bucks to buy a new motor for our main buggy and moving this engine into our 2nd one. Would you think against this?? We don't know what else could be wrong with the engine since we bought it like 4months ago from someone who let it sit for about 6 months.... just rather have this buy up and running well and then having the project motor in the 2nd buggy.

if you can afford a new motor that is a great way to have it up and going but if not then you will need to keep working on this motor

OK, looks like I can afford it, I'll know soon. I don't want to seem like I just wasted alleyoop's time though.... I guess what he helped me determine is that we needed to buy more parts then thinking down the long road it was the tipping point to just buy new. And maybe work on this one on the side.

WHAT!! I STAYED UP ALMOST ALL NIGHT trying to find how to put the chain in without having to take the motor apart and your going to get a new motor, BOY THE NERVE.. ***Just kidding Victor *** I am glad I was able to help in some way and since I found the HOW-TO pictures to install the CAM CHAIN that will maybe help and save some time for someone else. It was not a waste of time Victor I enjoy helping If I can. But Yes if you have doubts about that motor I think you should just get a new motor and work on this one when you have time. Alleyoop

Ok, so after thinking it out ive decided im going to buy the chain, chain guides, and oil seal to replace the chain, I've figured out our tensioner is working as intended it was just alittle operator error. If the chain keeps giving me issues after that then ill probably go with the new motor and figure it out later on. I want to let you know i very much appreciate all the time and help you have given me. I am ordering the parts now, when they get here and i get them all installed, which won't be a ton of fun, I will post here and let you know what happens! in the mean time i will make sure my breaks will work when we get this thing up and running! Thanks again and i would of never figured out how to do this with out your help!
Also, after looking at all the parts, unless something is terribly wrong within the crankcase(which shouldn't be or it probably wouldn't have run well if at all to begin with) buying the parts to fix anything that could be wrong with the carb, head of engine, or the CVT would not cost near as much as the brand new engine.
And another thing i noticed is my engine does not have the "Cooling Shroud" as it is called on that site you told me to go to for parts, is the a very import part of the engine here? like should i order one with these parts?

The chain guide are not just a 'slip in' replacement they require the head to be removed to replace the lower one and the top one is done from the CVT ...fairly major engine tear down unfortunately
You should download a shop manual and check out the chain guide pivot points...
the cooling shroud is important it is what cools the engine... the only time you can remove them is if you have NO body work...and even then the engines run very hot...
The fan cools these engine and without the shroud they overheat and die

Ok thanks, i will order the cooling shroud, and yes i understand what it takes to replace the guides, i already have the head off this engine to look at the timing chain and what not, also i have to go into the CVT portion anyways to replace the chain since this is the only way to put a new one on without taking the crank shaft out, i do know the work ahead wont be a ton of fun but hopefully it pays off and lets me drive this thing.
