Hello everyone, I'm looking for some help with replacing my stator. I'm working on a 150cc Longbo scooter that wasn't starting and it turned out to be the stator. It originally came with a 6 pole stator and I replaced it with an 8 coil. The scooter now starts, but blows headlights. I've tried three regulators and still have the problem. I just performed an additional test on the stator itself and noticed there is no coil resistance except between the white and yellow wires. If I understand correctly, there should be resistance between white and ground, as well as between yellow and ground, but I get "OL" on my meter when I test those.
In short, I have two questions:
1. Could the fact that there's no coil resistance be the cause of the excessive power blowing the headlights?
2. Is there a difference between an 8 coil stator and a 6 coil stator where the 8 coil is supplying significantly more power and therefore blowing the headlights?
I'm wondering if I should just look for another 6 pole stator to try instead of another 8.
Thank you very much!

what year is the scooter ? Welcome to the forum !! 4 Pin regulator ? what lonbo do you have ?
Yes 8pole stators do supply more current than 6poles . I have 2 longbo's one is the voyager it had a 6 pole 4 pin set up , I changed all that to 11pole stator and 7pin regulator . No more charging problems . The Prodgy 16" wheels has the 11pole with 5 pin setup , the battery box is tiny and the charging system is cooking the battery with in 4 to 6 months .

Some stators have a floating ground.. sounds like you have the wrong type.
One type has the yellow and white on opposite ends of 7 coils. (floating ground) The second type has white on one end and on the opposite end a ground (grounded stator - center tap). The yellow wire on these is a center tap.
So.. the problem is that the stator and regulator are mismatched...you need to figure out what stator you have an get the right regulator/rectifier and my guess would be a 7 pin...

Thanks for the picts.. that is a center tapped stator... a 4 pin rectifier regulator won't work...you need a 5 or 7 pin...
Or put a new 6 pole stator back on and use the 4 pin regulator...

Well if anyone really knows it would be nice to give the guy a link to the correct Regulator/Rectifier he needs since he would have a better electrical produceing stator with the 8 pole rather than the 6 pole. my .02 Alleyoop

Thanks Alley, but I'm going to try to bring it back to original working condition first.
John, I have already ordered a new 6 pole stator, but if I need anything else, I will let you know. Thank you!

This is the one on my Lifan - 8 poles...the enricher runs direct from the stator on AC power However with an EFI and electric fuel pump you really need 11 poles... Attachments:

Out of curiosity, I'm a bit confused when I hear people say to get a 7 pin regulator. My harness doesn't have a 7 pin plug (it only has the 4 pin plug). Am I missing something?

My stator hooks straight to the rectifier/regulator plug. with 2 wires separate that attach to bullet connects one for the enricher the other I can't remember where it goes... it doesn't touch the harness at that connection. The red wire runs to the batter for charge voltage and the yellow to the lights... The diagram shows the standard stator set-up for scooters with an AC CDI and the voltages... But for what you want you need a 3 phase 11 pole set-up Attachments:

How much voltage should be going to the plugs for the lights in a 6 coil vs. 8 coil setup. I was seeing over 90 volts with the 8 coil setup (no lights connected, so no load distribution).
