fuel gauge

took off the battery box and discovered that the fuel gauge was not connected at all. I started to look for where it may have come loose but I can't find the proper connection. There are (3) wires on the fuel gauge 1 black, 1 yellow and 1 wire that is white and blue.
How are these gauges usually hooked up?
On the bike I see only a few posibilities. there is a 6 pin connector and a white/orange wire
also a green/yellow wire on a y-type connector going to the bottom of the left brake (one side with nothing attacthed to it) another solid black wire on a y-type connector going to the bottom of the left brake (one side with nothing attacthed to it)
It was like that when I bought the bike, but I want to try and fix it. I tried connecting to various posibilities with no success. Any ideas would be surely appreciated.

Sounds like somebody has been doing some creative wiring on your scooter. As far as the gas gauge, you should find a blue/yellow and a blue/white coming from the sending unit that attach to the gas gauge. Then a black wire off of the ignition should supply the power. Refer to this diagram.
The green yellow is the power from the brake light switch and it also energize the starting circuit. Why it is lollygagging down by the brake i have no idea. Please refer to the same diagram. The same goes for that black wire. You'll have to get a multimeter and try to figure out where these bad boys are coming from. Rich

Don't you have a service manual for your bike? I always start looking for something that will serve as a service manual before I even have it home.

Not sure if this will help you, but my 2011 bike came with a printout of the entire electrical system. I can scan and post if you like?

That would be great if you could do that and then we'll post it in the tech section as a reference. Rich

wow lucky you having a schematic. AFAIK my 07 shanghai has never been touch but, the gas gauge goes backwards. I gave up on it and pulled the rotting foam thing off the sending unit for more room for fuel.
