This two cycle, 286 miles on it, will not rev above 6,200 rpms. We have changed the plug, new NGK, drained and replaced the fuel, disasmbled, cleaned and re-installed the carb, secured all air intake hoses and, adjusted the air/fuel screw from compleatly closed to four turns out. Still no joy. Sixty-two hundred rpms only. Oddly enough, another Adley Moto came in and it wound up 9,500 no sweat. Any ideas?

Ah ha. A two stroke that won't rev. Elementary Watson. A clogged exhaust pipe. I'm not sure about scooters but bikes had removable baffles to clean every so often. I ran afoul of that once and cleaned mine annually.

I can`t say for sure but I have a recollection that the Adly 50`s have a rev limiter in the cdi. Ideally you could`ve swapped cdi`s with the second Adly to see if the first one would rev higher.

Praise HIM ! On the back of the CDI there is a loop of green wire, That wire circuit restricts the revs. We clipped that wire and the Adly winds up 9,500. I recall reading somewhere else that rev limited CDIs could be disabled this way. Does anybody know more about it?
Best regards

There are quite a few cdi`s which have a limiter on, besides the Adly, although the wire that needs snipping varies in colour between models. Some have the loop, others have the wire disappearing off into the loom. Unfortunately there isn`t any hard and fast information except searching for a particular model on the net under 'derestriction'.

Check the variator as well some have a washer in them that effectively works as a limiter...
