I came out of work this afternoon and found this mess...



I assume it must be brake fluid since there isn't anything else up that high to leak. I will tear the plastic off tonight and check it out, but I guess I need to find a way to work tomorrow since its probably not a good idea to keep riding at this point. Strange though my front brake felt normal all the way home, it doesn't feel like its leaking or low on fluid.

I would have to agree with you on the brake fluid, unless one of your kids spillt there Pop-sickle on it. :-)
The brake fluid would be the only other thing up there. Good luck

As long as there's enough fluid to cover the port to the master cylinder the brake will work and feel fine. As soon as the port is exposed you pump air into the line and your brakes go mushy. That brake fluid can eat and ruin plastic, especially electrical wires, make sure you inspect everything carefully. Rich

What a mess.... I took the plastics off and its leaking from where the hose connects to the master cylinder. I filled it back up and rode it to work this morning as I couldn't get a ride to work. I will check it at lunch time and refill then again before I head home. It seems like a slow leak so I should be ok and the drum brake in the back is thankfully all mechanical so I will always have that.

I can't find the Master Cylinder assembly on Scrappydogs website, so I guess I will have to shop around. I want to see a picture of it, is there a seal between that hose and the master cylinder?

where the hose bolts on there is a copper washer on each side of the fitting. You can try to tighten that bolt some. (if that is where the fluid is coming from)

Where it bolts up to the hose, its leaking from the outside connection. Bolt to hose connection is where its leaking, so I will have to get some of those washers to fix it I guess.

Ok, I tightned up this bolt on the line connection, all though nothing up on the master cylinder


Just when I think tightning up the bolt on the line fixed it I come out of the store and my favorite brake fluid leak came back to visit me.


So it would seem somehow the leak is possibly below the master cylinder / handle bar area. It's actually coming from the body panel joint as seen in the second picture. Guess i will be tearing that off tomorrow to find it. Making me crazy as if I wasnt enough already....

Something else strange, I can ride for an hour never a drop, but then I park it and come back to it then its piddled all over itself. At least I can still ride it and keep the fluid full because the Automoto is my only other vehicle and its so slow its hard to ride it some places safely.

Well if its not leaking from the connections and running down along the hose I bet the hose is rubbing on something when turning and made a slit on the hose and is seeping out under pressure.

Thats what i was wondering, but I got to take that front headlight assembly off and check it tomorrow. I only took the top part off tonight to see the master cylinder. The rubbing makes more sense though cause I only got 6300 miles on the bike so far so I wouldn't expect master cylinder failure or the hose itself rotting or anything. I'll post some pics tomorrow when I check it out.

The seal around the piston on my Bali's left master cylinder was leaking after around 5,000 miles.

what about the bore leaking (where the brake lever pushes in the piston into the master cylinder?) and at least the fluid isnt running on the paint job. also check here with Dan at scooterparts express he has the mastercylinders

Ok, I finally found the fluid leak and its coming the seal on the cap. See this short video, there is one notch cut on each side and its leaking through the side in the video. Can you just buy this gasket I wonder. I have to call the dealer in the morning.

At least this mystery is finally solved and its nothing major.
