Darn it, I got the carb out and now it seems like the float bowl cover screws are covered, how do I get to the jets??
This is a brand new scooter, never ridden and very hard to start if it starts at all. When I got it, my friend laid it on its side and gas spilled out. Would this be a carb problem anyway or would I check the valves?
It is a 50cc
Gesssh.... very frustrating.
Thanks

Yea, the new scooter now come with the screws cut off as well as a plugged up Fuel Ratio Mixture screw. You could get a back out drill bit set or better yet just get an aftermarket Carb for $30.00 bucks and all the screws and adjustments will be there. They do that due to appease the EPA and set them up to run really lean which always causes problems becaue now you cannot adjust the carb to run in your enviroment.
But before you go and do anything check all the hoses make sure nothing came off or unplugged. Check the Coil wire going to the spark plug make sure it is on good etc.. Make sure no air leaks or broken Air Filter Tubeing or hose came off etcc.
Now after the scoot was laid down, does the motor crank over and attempt to fire and or does it start and die etc.. NEED SOME DETAIL EXPLANATION of how it is acting now to pinpoint what the problem could be. Alleyoop

Hi Again, Well, I checked to see if anything was lose or plugged. Seems like everything is ok. After is was laid down, there was a small puddle of gas on the ground. After the PDI, it would start after a few attempts and run pretty good. Then after we turn it off it would be very hard to start. Now it will not start at all but it still tries to crank over. Sometimes when we put our finger over the larger tube that kind of hang from the bottom of the bike it would start. Not sure if that is the vacuum hose? It is a big hose about an inch wide. Oh, wait a minute,I just check the help files and I think that hose is the fresh air tube and it is not connected. Could that be the problem? I may be wrong on that though. At the present time, it will not start at all. :-( Again, thanks for your help.

You need to set the valves, that can make it very hard to start. That large hose is probably an air intake for the vapor canister. If the bike was down that canister may be plugged with gas. Unhook all of the lines from it and plug the ones that run to the intake manifold and the air intake. Leave the vent line to the tank open and above the gas level in the tank. See if those things help and get back to us. Rich

Hey, well i think i did everything. Still cranks over but now it does not start. I do notice that no fuel is going into the fuel filter. Any other suggestions.
Thanks

Petcock..check the vacuum hose that goes to it...if it is a fuel pump check the vacuum hose to it...
The fuel filter should have fuel in it..you may have it backwards in the line
remove the gas cap and try it...

Hi again,
Well...I check to see if the fuel filter was on correctly. It was ok. I put a little gas in the line and it did run for a little while, well at least it started... yeah!!! Now it looks like the filter has no gas in it and it will not start again. Not sure what is going on. Any other suggestions guys?
Thanks so much in advance. Kinda getting tired of this thing! :-(

Petcock or fuel pump...plugged tank outlet, no vent to the tank ...who knows...
Start at the tank check everything all the way down to the carb inlet....when you crank the engine and you have fuel to the carb..then the fuel to the carb isbOK..otherwise it is an upstream problem

Well... the carb had no gas in it at all either. I was told the fuel pump is shot so the company is sending out a new one. I hope tht is what it is. I guess I will let you all know when it gets here. Kinda strange for a new scooter. The help is greatly appreciated.

im not sure how alike our scoots are BUT, on MY scoot, at the bottom left side of the scoots side skirts, hangs a fuel drain plug to use when you store your bike for prolonged periods of time. what i believe happened is you had one, and when you laid it over, it broke off. without the drain cap on im sure your fuel petcock could not gain the proper pressure to pull gas from the tank and pump it to the carb. the drain wont drain the tank, just the carb. either that or like you were told, the petcock/pump is shot due to the fact those break very easy. SO if you get the new pump and it still does not work, i would attempt to seal the hanging hose and try again. happy scootin'

Petcocks don't pump any fuel..they are just a single diaphram that opens with vacuum stays open, but may flutter and closes when the engine stops and the vacuum stops...basically a fuel on/off switch. They are a safety requirement on gravity feeds so the tank doesn't drain if the float sticks open...fuel in these systems flows by gravity...the tank is above the carb..the fuel flows down to the carb
Fuel pumps are different, they actually pump...the tank is below the carb...and the fuel is pumped up to the carb...both are operated from vacuum from the intake elbow...

Hello,
Well.. come to find out that the fuel pump (vacuum I think) was faulty. The part was under warranty and they sent us a new one. I know scoots are not perfect when they arrive but a faulty fuel pump? Oh well... the scoots is running really, really good now.
Thanks everyone!
