Hello,
Please forgive me if I posted this already. I thought I did but could not find it.
Well anyhooo...I adusted the valves today on my 50cc Tao Tao to .004 and .005 and now I hear a loud ticking. Runs better though.
The settings suggested in the owners manual are completely different than what others have suggested (.004 & .005) just wonder if that has something to do with the ticking?
I read someplace as to what to do put in this situaltion but as just could not put my finger on that thread. Any suggestions?
Thanks KEv

If they are chattering a lot you can bring the gaps down to .003 on both that will quiet them down. Alleyoop

The 50 s should be set at .003 as Alley suggested, the 150 s get the .004 and .005
Two different engines...sort of...

ooohhhh... I did not know that the 50cc was set differently. well the .003 did the trick. still a bit of a tick but not really bad. started up right away and runs super better.
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

Some people set the 50ccs to .002" but I think that's a little tight. Better a tad too loose than tight. If they're too tight you'll get poor compression and hard starting especially when the engine's warmed up. Rich

It will tick a bit but it should start to tighten again and the tick will get less and less. Check the gaps in 800 miles or so.

Let me piggy back on this -- I just adjusted my valves on the Vog (257 cc Linhai) to .004 in and .006 out. Now I have an audible tic tic tic . . . ., almost a knock knock knock , that I didn't have before. I checked again and the clearances were right. I'll need to let it cool down before checking again, but perhaps the out is too big? some people say .005. Some people also say ignore it because they'll tighten up anyway. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

A knock it too much. Your valves are being hammered instead of pushed

Yes folks it they CLATTER CLATTER CLATTER they are to loose. A TICKY TICKY TICKY is good you know they are not to tight and not to loose. A HAPPY VALVE IS A LITTLE LOOSE VALVE. Alleyoop
