Has anyone successfully removed the gy6 fan shrouding? Doesn't seem necessary to me. Then of course the air flow could be redirected to and air box creating a primitive supercharger.
Open to opinions here - both for and against.

The air cooled gy6 engines use that fan to cool the engine at all times. If it was not there the engine would quickly overheat and most likely seize. If you were to direct air at the engine from the front of the scoot it would be coming in at a horizontal, 90° angel to the vertical fins of the engine and there would be 0 air flow at a stop. Oh and you are not the only one thinking of using it as a supercharger

I have the GY6 in an old quad bike so there is very little surrounding the motor to prevent air flow like there may be in a scooter.
Maybe an electric fan for the cooling then and the crank driven fan as a supercharger?
Glad I am not the only sideways thinker out there!

I ran for quite a while without a fan shroud. However, h3nry is exactly right about the cooling fins being oriented for the fan and cooling shroud. I adapted by adding some cooling fins running from front to rear so the air would flow over them like on a dirt bike. You can read about it right here. Rich

I have wanted to smooth the fins off of a jug and attach a few computer heatsinks the correct orientation covering the whole thing but that is a bit of cash and would take a bit of ingenuity

Save your money..I known lots of people over the years that have tried computer heat sinks, with fans and exotic heat pipes even peltier coolers, and thermochips to run the fans based on heat differentials...
They all failed sooner or later...keep the shroud...

keep the shroud, you need it! only effective cooling measure is to get a new head that has a coolant port and to hook up a radiator. too expensive of an upgrade if you ask me. another way to keep temps down is to hook up an oil cooling radiator which requires extensive modding to achieve. simple enough to just keep your shrouds on. happy scootin'!

I know the engine wouldn't get any airflow at a stop. Or if you have all the plastics on at high speeds. However, mine is naked and completely exposed. Can't I get by with removal since the engine would be exposed to open air? Your expertise is appreciated ahead of time! Thanks!
