Alright so my scooter got stolen a week ago and the cops just recovered it yesterday, when I got to it the ignition had been punched. Right now I'm using the metal piece from in the ignition cylinder to turn the switch to start it and it's a pain. I want to remove that and cut into the switch pigtail and wire in a toggle until I can get a new ignition. The ignition has 4 wires, a green(ground) red(hot) and 2 black(accessories?) How would I wire these to a 3 prong toggle switch? Hook the two black together as the accessories then the ground and power? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I`m not quite sure if it`s do-able. Besides the worry of a toggle handling the current going through an ignition switch, there is the configuration issue. Also one of your black wires should be the kill wire which is normally black and white. On a normal ignition switch, in the off position the green ground and black/white kill are connected. In the on position the red positive feed and the black accessory are connected. Depending on how the 3 prongs are configured would depend on how you could connect up the wires. You could attach the red feed on one terminal and the black accessory on another to give you a simple on/off switch, but then unless you have a separate kill switch there will be no way of stopping the engine.

The kill switch on the handlebars is still there couldn't I just use that to kill the motor or am I missing something? setup 2 different toggles?

Ah well if you`ve got a separate kill switch, and as long as you can identify which of the black wires is the kill wire, then simply tape off the end of the green wire and the kill wire separately so they are not connected to your ignition toggle (effectively rendering them redundant until you get a new ignition switch). Then just connect the red to the feed on the toggle and black accessory to another terminal on the toggle and see if the system works.

Nope, the system will already have a ground on the frame and the engine, all it does in the ignition switch is ground out the kill wire to stop the engine when the ignition switch is turned off.

You can also get a toggle switch with 3,4,5,6 poles for different functions. You actually can get away with a 3 pole switch, when off you are grounding it just like the killswitch and flip it to on and you are passing juice. Alleyoop

so basically just hook up the accessory(black) and the hot(red)? Does the actual kill switch wire into the ignition switch usually, or does it go to the main power? It wouldn't work if I got a 4 prong and hooked all up right? 'cause when I flip it on some aren't supposed to be on correct? So just get a 2 prong and hook up the 2. The one black wire has a blue stripe on it.

I ended up just purchasing a whole new ignition cylinder with all the other locks and new keys. along with a cheap vibration alarm and a rotor wheel lock. Hopefully it won't get stolen again...

I've got a similar issue. All lights have been removed from my scooter There are no brake switch connections either. It was that way when I got it. Everything else is connected except the following wires
red wire that ran to old keyed ignition switch black wire that ran to old keyed ignition switch black/white that comes from the stator, and runs to cdi, and has a soldered black/white feed connected to nothing I also have a red/yellow, and a green/yellow that are connected to solenoid, and are connected to nothing
I don't have $ for new wiring harness, and just want to wire it up to run with switches
So I think this is right Wire a switch between black, and red for ignition on/off Wire a switch between ground and blk/white wire for kill switch Wire a switch between red/yellow, and green/yellow for start switch
Does this sound correct?
thanks

Go to our library for generic wiring diagrams, then you can make a plan of what wires to use.
