So I will be riding my moped to my high school starting in about one week. I will be locking it at my schools bike racks. I am just wondering, where would be a safe place to keep my helmet? I have under the seat storage, and I have a plastic trunk mounted on the back. Now I know the answer seems clear, either in the trunk or under the seat, but I am asking because well the lock for the seat doesn't seem very strong and feels like it could get forced open pretty easily and the trunk I have mounted on the back is plastic as are most and the lock is just basically a plastic latch that locks. So both storage areas seem like they could be easy to break into so I am worried about my helmet getting stollen by some high school hooligans making a prank on my moped if i keep it in those storage places. Do you guys have any opinions on if those are fairly safe storage areas and i am just over worrying, or should I keep it some place else? I can't keep it in my locker because my locker is tiny and the helmet would not fit at alll. So opinions and ideas would be very helpful guys:)

I attached mine to the bike with with a ski lock, a thin, hardened steel rubber covered combination lock. So far, so good. The real answer, if you're concerned, in is in your locker.

Maybe a change in helmet style would work. If you now use a full head style or whatever they are officially called, some with chin parts or full wrap down the neck, but there are also some less bulky looking helmets like the style the police have or the half helmets that only go down to your ears.
Just suggestions for your small locker. .

I would keep it in my locker if it would fit, and well my dad and I both don't like the smaller helmets cause we feel they aren't as safe as my full face I currently have, and my locker is so small even a half shell helmet won't fit!

I bought a nylon helmet bag with long shoulder straps, and rather than leaving it with the bike I just take it with me.

My goodness, where do you live. Most areas I think of the lockers are big enough to hold books, back pack, winter clothes and coats, whatever they may need for the students comfort and safety. When I was a young pup and in school we had half height lockers so two high. Now maybe if you consider width or depth they may have been too small, don't know. So you have a sad situation. Wear a full face helmet that won't fit your locker or buy a smaller helmet like the police have that you could fold up the leather sides and push into the headpiece and then set on its side and likely fit into a smaller locker diagonally. If they have DOT approval they meet the necessary requirements. .

I live in MA, and I do have a half shell too, but if I crash and hit face first.....well my face is gonna be badly scratched up, and that won't fit in my locker. Every one in my school has an iPad, the school gives them to us so we have very few textbooks and therefor very minuscule lockers. No helmet will sadly fit, if it would that would be my very first choice but I am stuck with either putting it In my under the seat storage or rear trunk. Or possibly using a small combo lock to lock it to my oped, but then it would be in the open where anyone could kick it around or scratch it........I have some quite, pardon my language, assholeish kids in my school that I would fear them vandalize my helmet.

The trunk box is more secure than it looks. Mine is a bit loose on the mounting, so I have a shop rag in between the trunk and the bracket as a kind of shim. Keeps it from rattling, and I suppose keeps someone from trying to rip the whole thing off. Plus, I have a shop rag if I really need it.
If you're concerned about school kids messing with your helmet if you leave it chain locked to the bike, those same kids can mess with your bike, too. Or your car, if you choose to drive a car instead. Or anything that belongs to you that you're not in immediate proximity to. I used to feel this way about my scoot when I first got it, that "someone" was going to "mess with it" or steal it or something.
You gotta let go of that. If they do, they do. That's what insurance is for, and remember that it's just a thing. You'll get more enjoyment out of riding it if you're not always worried about what's going to happen to it.

Nougat, you are right, I should stop over worrying and have some faith in humanity. But my scooter legally qualifies as a moped so there is no insurance on it right now. Ok this has definitely helped guys, I really appreciate it

If you have a full face helmet just chain it to the bike.

why don't you just ask the office at school if you can leave it up there while your in class most of the time they wouldn't mind and I doubt anyone would take it out of there either.

Great idea except our lockers have our locks built in.
