Hey guys. I just had a quick question about gas. What is the best gas to use in you moped, I have a 50cc jonway agility, and was told to use premium by my dealer, but I heard people saying that the octane is too high and doesn't burn as well as regular for a moped. So in all of your professional scooter experience, what is the best gas to use?

As long as it doesn't ping, use anything. I've tried all grades in my bikes and scooters and see no difference in how they ran or pinged.

I have never heard anybody recommend anything less than 90 octane. I wouldn't personally use any lower grade. Anyway at the most a fill-up for me is only going to cost an extra 20 to 40 cents depending on the grade. I supose it wouldn't hurt once in a while in an emergency, but I won't use lower if I can help it.

premium is a waste of money. The chinese rating system of octane is different. My scooters get the cheap stuff and I will spend more to get gas instead of crap-a-hol too. Alcohol is bad news for an engine with tiny jets in a carb.

A little dab of Seafoam will cure the ethanol blues.

How would I get said ethanol blues? By drinking it.
Higher octane fuels have detonation retardants that keep them from prematurely igniting in high compression engines. You must have a compression ratio of 9.3 or higher to even begin to properly "harvest" the energy in higher grade fuels. Premium gasoline actually has less energy per unit than regular but the additives make it possible to use the fuel more efficiently than regular. The other additives, such as cleaners, are present in every grade. So "super" gas isn't all that super. If your bike pings that's pre-detonation and you need a higher grade. However, most scooter engines, especially GY6s, are 9.3 or lower so you'd not only waste your money but regular would actually provide a slight increase in power. You might want to read over this article.

Good info Bashan. I think I'll try mid-grade and see what happens.
