Hey peoples, Had a bad night on the scooter... Went down a shortcut in the dark, wasn't one, turned around and a curb jumped out in front of me. Hit it so hard my trunk blew up! Dented the rims pretty bad... Was able to knock them back a bit, added a lot of silicon, and got the tires to hold air. Was planning to get new rims asap because the aluminum cracked when knocked back. Thought it would be OK for a while, but the scoot is riding very bumpy. Seems to be coming mostly from the front. I can tolerate it, and it smooths out at higher speeds, but I am worried. The dents in the rims occurred on the right side only. Question: Is the bouncing happening because of the damaged rims or is it a more serious problem with the forks? And if so, how can I diagnose the problem? If it is a more serious issue it would seem that it would be a scooter-killing accident...

I'm just wondering if you damaged the front bearings or axle?

Guess my question wasn't clear.
Can the bumpy ride be caused only by the rims being damaged, or is it an indication of a more serious problem?
I do not know how to tell. I don't have the time or place to take it all apart right now. I am planning to buy new rims, but do not want to do that if it will not correct the problem.

Its probably just the rim making it bumpy, If it was bearings or axle you would be hearing rubbing sound. but when take that tire off make sure you look at axle bolt.

Also check if you can move the Handlebars back and forth which would indicate they are loose. If it tracks straight it is probably just the rim that got bent. You can also lift the front tire off and spin it with your hands and you should see it Oscilate out of round and you will also be able to tell if the axle bolt is Oscilating or just the tire. Thanks! Oscillate is one of my favorite words. hehe
I will be getting new rims (hopefully) this weekend then. Getting COLD out there!
For some of us, these scooters are our only mode of transportation. My local shop at least charges very exorbitant prices for any service done, so I have to do it myself. Your advice has allowed me to keep doing so for over a year, and I thank you for that.
Cheers! Salud! And appreciated!

Update and a new problem:
Got one rim from scrappy. (Ordered both but they were out of stock for the rear, even though their website did not say so...) Decided to replace the front and wait for the rear...
I took the wheel off and tried to remove the brake rotor from the rim. The mounting screws will not budge. Started to strip out the alum wrench tops on the screws. So I figured would just have to get a new rotor with new screws. No such luck. Can't find the screws anywhere, or get one out to try to match them...
Does anyone know where to get the screws that are needed to mount the rotor to the rim? (Asked scrappy and nope.)
Thanks!
John

The mounting screws can be a pain to get out, sometimes a little bit of corrosion builds up on the threads. It`s always worth giving them a whack with something like a brass or steel drift and a hammer to shock them, and then try the wrench or impact driver on them again.

Some times heat will help on those screws. Could be lock tighted. I would be very concerned with the tire too, as from the look of it the front tire was in between the curb and the rim on the hit and may have damage to the cords inside it. The steering stem could be loose also as some one pointed out. Lots of checking won't hurt any thing.

I was in accident earlier this year, more or less i laid it down and I and scooter slid for a bit. Ever since then the back wheel which looks perfectly fine vibrates the whole scoot. I guess the Chinese aluminum wheels area crap shoot.
i'm probably going to see if i can't buy it's twin (used [knocks]) for around 100-200 bucks and rob parts off of it since a rim is freaking 90-100 bucks shipped.
NOTE: all you should need are, parts of a 50cc peace unless yours has bigger wheels, like mine does.
I'll quit babbling now.

scrappy dog is a decent seller. the parts should fit what they say they fit. weather or not those bolts fit i don't know. what i do know is that you have decent chance since a lot of Chinese parts are interchangeable. The problem is i think the equation changes with smaller engines. regardless you if you are gonna use a fan you are gonna want something that packs a punch.
