A CDI is like your COIL on a car then it sends the juice to the DISTRIBUTOR and as the DISTRIBUTOR turns it fires each plug. On a scooter the STATOR(SAY ALTERNATOR) creates elecrity sends some to the CDI which STORES it and CONVERTS it to DC then next to the STATOR is a what they Call a PICKUP COIL that when the motor is coming up on the compression stroke it sends juice to the CDI to RELEASE the DC voltage it built up and SEND IT TO THE COIL to fire the plug.
So how was the AIR FILTER? Alleyoop

WHAT!! ok here is what your carb probably looks like. SEE THE FUEL RATIO SCREW Turn that clockwise until it stop do not force it because it has a point just until it stops THEN TURN it OUT counterclockwise 2 1/2 turns and give that a shot. Alleyoop

Millsc, he does not have a spare CDI he would have to order one and if there isn't a scooter shop around near him it will takes days to get one. So before we start replaceing parts lets try the EASY STUFF that does not need parts first. He doesn't even have a Spark Plug socket. Alleyoop

Yea I have the original one and 5 performance ones. And I always carry the OEM one in the trunk, belt, plug, fuel filter, weights, Vise Grip with chain to hold the clutch or Variator, tools, Coil, hoses, wire even a Tow Strap, Variator or Clutch nut and washer. I think I am missing the TOILET SEAT to take a crap(HAHA). Alleyoop

Lol you guys are great and I truly appreciate the help! Sorry like I said I'm just borrowing this scooter for a few weeks and I left my tools at his house where I was working on it. The Carbs are really simple don't need anything but some screwdrivers so...... I have a buddy that has a scooter rental shop ill call him inn the am and see if he has any CDIS I doubt it though he just sold the shop and is packing up moving. I put a fan on it to try and air it out if something did get wet.

Well maybe after it dries off, but if the the spark plug is fireing I would suspect no fuel is being sucked into the intake. What I ususally do to check if it is fuel delevery problem is I take the VACUUM hose on the INTAKE MANIFOLD that is the BLACK CURVED PIECE with two bolts bolted to the head and the Carb is attached to it. I disconnect the VACUUM hose where ever it is connected to a "Y" OR "T" and get a cup put about 1 teaspoon of gas in the cup squeeze the cup into a point hold the Vacuum line up and pour the little bit of gas straight into the INTAKE into the motor. Then hook the hose back up and crank it. IF it is getting Spark and compression is good it will attempt to start and may start and die. But that will point to a fuel delivery problem.
If it doesn't fire then I would suspect the PLUG, Compression or CDI since it did send juice to the end of the COIL Wire which you tested with a screwdriver. Since it rained like heck I would put the fan by the stator. Alleyoop

Thanks for all your help Alleyoop. I spoke with the owner today and he said this happened before when it got rained on. He said he could get spark but not enough to fire the engine. Said he wound up having to replace the coil. I asked him the CDI or the coil he said coil. Said it was round and located near the rear of the scooter. Is this what the CDI wires go to? Is it called an ignition coil wire? Does this sou d like it could be the problem? The spark isn't as strong as it was now.

The COIL is the one that PLUGS ONTO YOUR SPARK PLUG, So follow the wire on your spark plug and you will see the ROUND COIL. You can get them just about anywhere, any of the dealers on the banner page will have them. Alleyoop
