I've just started getting involved with the electrical system on my 08 yy-250-t and have read posts and seen parts for sale indicating that the electrical system might be AC or DC. What would be a good way to find out. I found one thread out there that flatly said if its Chinese, then it is DC. My rectum-frier has 6 wires coming out of it: 3 yellow, black, red, and green. There is a small heat sink next to it with a red and a black wire coming from it. IDK what that is. CDI reads: SMBD250C among other things.

I tried to conduct a search before posting this, if there is another post which explains this, please send me the link.

Well here it is your CDI. But best way to tell if its a DC or AC is check the BOTTOM WIRE on the 2 plug. You can test it with a 12v LIGHT TESTER or a VOLT METER. TURN the KEY ON and test the Wire, if using a 12V test light and it LIGHTS UP it is a DC CDI, if using a VOLT METER it will register 12v.

I have that style cdi in both ac and dc . I would hope others get a good laugh on my spelling errors as I did this one .
Are there six dingle berries to go with the six hairs .

SO which is it, AC or DC??
Very simple to test and find out. But on most 250s they are DC and will not run without a good battery.

Ok I tested mine and I have 12.79 volts coming out of that pin, now I wanted to buy a no rev/ 4 degree advanced CDI and I have square plugs so do you recommend this cdi from Scrappy Dog?? thanks

You can get that the one from Scrappy, or get them cheaper on EBAY, your choice.

Thank-you vansmack2 I went with the Midwest people 3rd link down, they are located in MI and close to me as I live in WI I got BOTH the CDI and a hotter coil for 45 bucks shipped thanks again, hopefully this stuff works as intended.
