The steering lock on my scoot appears to be inoperable. When I insert key, push key down, I can't turn key to left to engage the lock. I've tried turning steering through full arc while attempting to lock the steering with no success. Any technical advice and disposition is greatly appreciated. Thank you

You should not be concerned with the FLIMSY STEERING LOCK on the scoot. Even if you LOCK it a good TURN of the HANDLEBARS will break the arm that locks it. And it may not even have it or its broken already, but to find out you will have to take the something off to have a look see. Alleyoop

HAHAHAHA, well think about it, the KEY itself is not very strong you can pop that sucker out with just a screwdriver and the IGNITION key actually turns the lever so not very strong at all. Alleyoop

So when parking in public should I use a bicycle lock and secure it to something solid?

One of those disk brake locks would be better than nothing, but he who wants the scooter around the corner will take it anyway. All flimsy locks do is keep a timid crook honest. When they can steal a harley with a log chain to a telephone pole in less than a minute what does that say for a bicycle chain?

Steering lock is no deterrent. My scooter was stolen last April with the steering locked and the scooter secured to a stanchion with a 3/8" cable with a stout lock. Thief just forced the steering, u can see where the steering head is scarred. Steering lock still works but is very sloppy, i don't depend on it. I recommend a disk brake lock with alarm. I bought 2 Abus disk brake locks in which the alarm started malfunctioning in a short time, a new battery did not cure the problem. I then went with the Xena XX-6, both have worked now fine for a couple months. All these disk brake locks use the CR2 battery. amzn.com/B002TWUTK8

OK, that Xena looks pretty good. I won't bother wasting time with that chincy chinese steering lock. Thanks for all the input.

amzn.com/B002VSD50QI like the yellow ones, more visible to thiefs. Powersport Superstore via Amazon is where i bought mine, shipping was fast. Comes with 3 keys and u can buy guts to fit inside the shell when necessary.
