Hey Guys! A guy brought this Moped to me and has asked me to get it going. I have NEVER seen an engine mounted like this. It has a spring... that looks like it pivots down for some reason... It reminds me of a gas golf cart setup. I am guessing the pulley turns with the pedals, turns the variator, starts the engine.? Not sure. I will be doing the normal stuff, cleaning out the gas tank and cleaning the carb and replacing lines. The engine moves right now, and like I said, has a spring... I'm not sure if it SHOULD be able to move, or not??? Thanks for ANY help guys!!! Attachments:

What is the Spring connected to?
There is that TURN KEY on the Big pulley which is probably used to LOCK or DISENGAGE the PEDALS to use as a BIKE or have the motor do the work.
I had a moped with pedals and there was a little TURN KEY to do that Turn the KEY and it would disengage the gears to the motor an you can use the pedals like a bike Turn the KEY the other way to Engage the Gears and then the motor would take over. Alleyoop

Centrifugal clutch mounted to engine crankshaft on left side. Magneto on right side of engine, also chain that drives rear wheel via foot pedals on right side of moped.

One side of the spring is connected to the engine, the other side of the same spring, is connected to the frame Alley
There is only one other spot where the engine is connected to the frame, I am not sure if it is supposed to be like this but on the other mount it is just a bolt through the frame with the engine basically dangling there, no rubber, nothing

Sounds like the spring is just a cushion for the motor because those like that do move around a bit. Alleyoop

Engine typically was bolted directly to the frame on the European mopeds. The engine was started via the clutch. Is there a pull lever up on the handlebar for starting? With the moped up on the center stand you should be able to pull lever and pedal to turn over engine.

So far I have taken the WEIRD Carb off, and completely broke it apart and cleaned it really well. I also flushed out the gas tank and shut off valve, put some fresh mixed gas in 24:1.
Not getting a spark, I can hear compression, so thats good, but I think the coil is more than likely bad. It is the original so Im 90 percent sure it needs replaced.
Im pretty sure ANY 12 volt 2 wire coil will work just fine, right? I will prolly pick up some 14ga. wire and redo alot of it as well as the ground. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

PS is there a special trick to starting these? I see TWO switches, one on each handle bar, the PUSH DOWN with the brake levers OUT. I am guess ONE of them must be pressed down for GROUND to be complete? THANKS

THANKS ROB, and pmatulew!!! The links are VERY helpful and the video helped also! I DID NOT KNOW, that I had to pull the right hand thumb cable, that goes to the top of the Head. What exactly does that do?? ALSO MY MAIN QUESTION I was NOT getting ANY spark. I found the exact same coil for the bike, but unfortunately its about 120 dollars after shipping :// SO I bought a TWO STROKE, 50CC, 2 wire Coil, for a motorized bike kit, found here: www.bikeberry.com/engine-kit-parts/electrical/cdi-electron-ignition-coil.htmlI am pretty sure that I just needed a 12volt coil, that didn't need a CDI box... AT LEAST I HOPE SO!!! hahaha THANKS ALOT YOU GUYS! COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT YA!!

WOW!! that is neat the motor actually pivots to have it drive the wheel and disengages for pedaling. Alleyoop
