Just a little step by step guide to renewing your piaggio/gilera 50 oil pump belt, often overlooked piece that plays an important role and should really be renewed every 3yrs or around 10k miles Right let's get down to it First start by removing the variator using a locking tool or a 'windy' gun, I prefer the locking tool method myself once the variator is removed just pull the starter bendix and remove it Next remove the two screws holding the oil pump(http://www.motoparts-superstore.com/scooter-parts/scooter-engine-parts/oil-pump.html) on, take note how the slot on the rear of the pump sits on the drive no need to remove the pipes or cable, just cable tie or tape it to one side out of the way Next undo the screw and remove the inner metal plate Next remove the thick spacer washer and the two cogs with the belt

The rest of you guys see this? Four.....count 'em FOUR posts and the guy gives us a tutorial! Thanks Simularity, I'll move this over to the proper spot in the Library after it's had the chance to embarrass everybody. Who am I kidding, these guys don't do embarrass. In fact, they like to go bare-arse.

Nice tutorial. I used to work in an Aprilia dealership and we regularly got scoots coming in with crank bearings blown because the tiny belt had snapped. The owners had been putting 2t oil in as they were supposed to but had never had a service done. Whilst a good idea in theory, I can`t think of a worse idea than to have a rubber belt running such a vital part such as an oil pump, especially on scoots ridden primarily by teenagers.
