Ready for a grand shot Borg? MIC members are the Big Four and Piaggio among the scooter producers. It's because people want economical scooters, not expensive ones. So Kymco, SYM, Hyosung, Genuine and all the Chinese aren't MIC members. Numbers are probably way up among the sensibly priced scooters, just not among the waaaaaaaaaaaay expensive ones.

The gas mileage thing some people get nuts over. It would take years and maybe never to justify spending tens of thousands to get the extreme mileage some vehicles offer over a low cost vehicle with so so, a bit more than average mpg. Even with scooters some go to extremes even posting their daily mileage. The difference between 70 mpg and 80mpg isn't going to be more than chump change and certainly is not worth spending 4 or 5k when you already have a scooter that gets 60mpg.

Yep, some people are fanatics about gas mileage and prices of gas. Some will travel miles to another gas station to save 5 cents on a gallon of gas. But they don't realize that they spent the savings getting to the gas station with the 5 cents less per gallon(HAHA). Alleyoop

Seems like we are gravitating towards the other thread ,,, ,,,the whole idea for me getting a scooter was to slow down a bit,, enjoy riding more and save gas as a bonus , saving a ton of dough in the process for the whole package,, reg/ins/gas/partsandservice,,,it's the psyco circus of more better faster,,,ect,,,it never stops,,but I digress ,,I think actual scooter sales as a whole are up,,, I may be wrong but I'm seeing more and more of them around,,,

I ride because I like to ride, not to save gas. With the car I do check mileage frequently as it is a good way to spot a problem with the engine. With a bike or scooter you are more apt to notice a drop in performance than a car. I seldom check mileage with 2 wheels. The last motorcycle I had got 28mpg so I had to fill up at a little over 100 miles.

this goes to show that fewer and fewer people are buying chinese scoots, especially the 50cc's....people are smarter nowadays.....spending 900bucks for a scoot that has too many issues.,and end up in the garage collecting some cab webs, dust and most of all "embarassment". and it will ruin one's self esteem. i'll stay with my 250cc jap scoot, this makes my chin held up high.
i told you guys,,,,TIME TO WAKE UP!!!,,,,that article is a wake up call for everyone...

Some folks buy the scoots to save on gas and some like me it is just a toy that I ride only on sunny and warm and not windy days. I have two gas guzzling caddies that only take premium fill ups are anywhere from 50-70 bucks depending on the price of gas. I also only use Shell been using it for over 30 years I also use shell for my trike. MPG I don't even think about if I need gas I just fill up. Alleyoop

I want a 49cc scooter new, but other things affect me from buying, right now. Propane is at $4 per gallon. Suppliers are rationing the amount they sale to customers- 100 gallon cap. Someone decided it would be wise to sale propane to Europe.. This caused the Midwest to run short on supplies. This is what caused propane to soar. In the future, I hope, the propane companies don't sale propane to outside buyers, so they can make sure the USA is taken care of first. It looks like have to wait on a toy scooter until winter is over.

I love to ride and commute when the temps are good,,,when they dip into the low 40's or high thirties i don't,,,gives me a chance to go over the machines to make sure everything is kosher,,,saving gas is a added attraction ,, i really would love to know the true total of scooter sales,,i'd put money on an increase ,,the way the pricing is going on mic scooters i wouldn't doubt it,,,man the msrp's are stratospheric but maybe it's just me being behind the times,,,i guess i'm relegated to buying good used knowing i got a great deal for generally less than half of new,,,and as always CL is my friend

Short story bout numbers: 3 Accountants are applying for the same job. Acct #1 is asked the question: What's 2 plus 2. He replies - Four Acct #2 is asked the same question, he relies' well, depends if it's a neg 2 or a pos 2, etc etc Acct #3 is asked the same question. He replies "It's whatever you want it to be" #3 got the job
Moral: numbers can be manipulated any way the pollster wants em.
