Bike been runing fine but decided to check the valves anyway and I found the exhaust was closed up where a .002 wouldnt slide in. Set it to .003 and what a difference ! Been 1000 miles or so since the last adjustment and a gradual reduction can probably go by without much notice. The intake was still spot on at .003 but that small change can make a huge difference in performance.

As you get more miles on them they will not close up so often. The head gets work hardened.

The valves on a China scooter are spun welded where the shaft meets the head. The material stretches for awhile until they get some miles on them. New 50cc engines that only start out at .002 need to be monitored the first couple of thousand miles religiously. After that they stop stretching and can go much further safely.

I just learned something new again,,,thank you KZ! I learned that from Kliff. He did my head, the one I broke, and he told us all about that when everybody was peeved about why valve adjustments at 1,000 miles were so important.

Should the valve be snug or loose against the gauge when adjusting the valves?

It should have a slight drag on the feeler gauge.

is it necessary to replace the valve cover gasket every time you check the valves ? if it is necessary, where is the best place to order them from,
I have a 50 and a 150 that both needs checked.

Everybody has em.
One thinbg Ive noticed is that the noise from valves at .003 is much more pronounced than at .002 but runs better.

My owners manual says to set both valves at .005, but that seems a little noisy. If seen recommendations for .004 intake and .003 exhaust. What say you?
