Hello everybody. I'm a new scooter owner and new to the Scooter Doc forum. I just wanted to introduce myself and let you guys know a little about me. I bought a 50cc Chinese scooter. It has a 139 QMB engine. It is probably the single most funniest thing I've ever purchased. I love it. I don't just use my scooter for fun though. My scooter is my main mode of transportation. I also take the bus. Public transit is less fun. It's also more expensive. ($1.75 a trip) I'm a working student so money is tight. If anybody has any newbie advice let me know, I could use it. I installed a new CDI with a new ignition coil. Already my scoot is quicker. It takes off faster and seems to move a little better. So I'm thinking some Dr Pully sliders, 5 gram, maybe? After that maybe a spring set. I want a BBK but like I said, it's my main mode of transport so I can't have it disabled for too long. Anyway just wanted to hi and if anybody has any advice I would appreciate it. Thanks.

The 5 gram rollers will give you better pickup at the expense of top end. If it's your Transportation be careful what kind of hop ups you do. Many can sacrifice engine life. How many miles does it have on it now? They get stronger as they get older.

be careful what kind of hop ups you do. Seriously? Hop ups?! I thought I was old, are you 140? Actually I just said that to my son last week and he laughed his arse off. I said "you're grounded!" He said I don't live with you and.....well, I won't tell you what else he said but now he's double grounded!

Welcome good to have you on the forum.
The 139QMB motors are really reliable and if you have any troubles with it just open a thread in the 50-250cc section and explain what the problem is. And always try and mention the motor you have so the responses will pertain to that type of motor and carb that come with those scoots and electrical.
If something does go wrong and you do not know do not hesitate to ask NO QUESTION is a stupid question that is how people learn and then be able to fix it themselves and save a lot of money on labor and parts as well. Alleyoop

Thanks for the warm welcome!!! I will post pictures as soon as the sun comes back up. I bought my scooter used. It has 3,000 miles on it. It starts right up and runs great. The person I bought it from had a couple thing fixed on it before she sold it to me. Complete variator set, belt drive (Gates PL20507), transmission cover gasket, clutch assembly, Belray EXL Mineral 4T oil, gear oil, start switch, and a headlight bulb. It was all done at a reputable scooter dealer here in Louisville where I live. Is there any other maintenance I should be worried about? New spark plug maybe? Air/fuel filter? I'm not sure where to start. I do know the shop probably checked everything but I just want to make sure. kz1000st Your right I don't want to screw up my engine. I just want my scooter to run at its peak performance. I love my scooter, it's awesome. I think this might turn into a lifelong love affair. Where can I get cheap but good tires? I think they're 10x3.5 I could be wrong tho. How do I know when to change the brake pads? They're pretty squeaky. Maybe I should make a new thread in the 50-100cc section. Sorry if I'm breaking any rules. Just let me know. I'm new, I'm new, I don't know what to do.

We are so glad to have you on the forum, welcome, but stay away from Cyborg....he is truly demented! OKAY! I'm joking again! Welcome to Scooter Doc, if you need anything PM me, I will be glad to help. Rich

With 3,000 miles already you're well past the break in stage but they do, honestly, keep getting stronger. It's good you have a scooter dealer to fall back on and it seems like it's been well taken care of so far. Most of the "Issues" on China scoots pop up fresh out of the box. I'm guessing that the dealer did a proper Pre-Delivery Inspection, the PDI you'll read about so much here and elsewhere. It's the difference between a love affair and a love-hate relationship. I'm not a fan of Performance Modifications (Happy now Rich) for a scooter you depend on. For scooters as a toy, a good Big Bore kit, larger carburetor, hotter cam and a performance head can be fun. Of course the next rebuild will always be coming up, but there's always the car to get you to work. I get my kicks dragging stock beasts to stratospheric mileage numbers myself, but that's just me. Left stock you could have that puppy for the next twenty years before a rebuild will be called for.

. Left stock you could have that puppy for the next twenty years before a rebuild will be called for. When I was riding my 1100cc Shadow Sabre, all I did was gas, change oil and ride. Did a lot of cosmetic things, but left the engine stock. Only had 50K on it when I had to quit riding. My Goldwing, totally stock, 105K Now my trike, there isn't much available for it for performance upgrades, nor would I care to make any. It gets the job done, and I'm happy. Ride safe Dave
