I'm planning on taking the scoot to class in the morning. The forecast says 40 and sunny at that time. I'm planning on jeans, coat, insulated gloves, and full face helmet. It's about a 20 minute drive, through town, stop and go, max speed 45. That'll be my first ride in anything under about 55 degrees. I think I'll be alright. What say you?

If guys on snowmobiles can do it, so can we! I've ridden at -5*F. If you dress correctly to keep the wind out, wear a full face helmet with a scarf or balaclava to keep wind out, it is not bad. I wear sweat pants, jeans, 2 pairs of socks, boots, sweatshirt, hoodie, jacket, snowmobile suit and insulated winter gloves. The only time I don't ride is when roads are snow covered or icy, or the wind is too strong. In the summer I ride when it is very windy, but not in the winter.

That's not too bad. At 40 I can get by with gloves, below that I have leather mittens. I will tell you what helps a lot. Keeping skin covered. you may not see this, but if you do. The neck is the most overlooked part of riding. I have a neck warmer. As air passes over your neck it sucks out heat. You mostly don't realize it because the head has like half your blood in it, but it's happening. Even wrapping a thin towel like a scarf helps immeasurably. I learned all the "Keeping Warm" tricks the hard way. This is one of the most important ones.
Forty degrees, that's June weather here.

I used to live in NY and then WI. If I wanted to ride much during a year if the roads were clear, I rode. 15 degrees out? No problem, just wear a balaclava and good gear. Snowing but no ice? Just go. Hand got cold? If I was on my motorcycle I'd just warm them up on the engine cases while riding. Raining? Rain gear.
I've since moved to Florida and I've been here for a little while now. 50 degrees out? Brrr, no thanks, I'll drive. lol

It was 37 when I left the house this morning. That was nothing. I could've tolerated much colder. I suppose the sun helps too.

My record is 17 degrees.....that's Kelvins wussos.....KELVINS! The molecules were posing stationary for me...that's right....they weren't moving! Actually...it was Fahrenheit....I keep my hands warm with electric gloves. Other than that, I use a snow mobile helmet with a skirt (pink with a blue border) and two pair of long Johns (pink with a blue border). Remember the old motto....warm hands, gigantic Schwarzenegger!
