FIlled up and the scoot started to sputter and lose power. Looked at my fuel filter and saw it was milky. Clear fuel line was okay AFTER the filter. I drained a half galon into a clear jar and there was 2 inches of clear liquid floating on a the rest that looked milky. JUst nasty looking so I drained the tank and filled up at another station and put a shot of seafoam in there. Runs fine now.

The problems with ethanol are well known but there's a highly contributing factor to problems. Never, and I do mean never, fill up while the tank truck is filling the station's tanks or if you see it pulling away. They stir up the crud and over power the pump filters.

I heard a rumor if you use a paper type filter and have a bad case of water in gas it's ruined?

I don't know if the water would ruin it. I would think if the water was really bad the glop it would make in the gas would coat the filter so badly it would be good to replace it. It would be like a severe case of mud on your air filter.

The good news here is at least it was only a gallon. Glad you didn't fill up a vehicle with that gas. Glad to hear it didn't clog a jet on your carb also. you must be putting a lot of miles on that scoot 4000 miles in 7 months that's a lot of scooting you rock.

The local Sunoco has 100 octane at the pump. I might just give it a try. After all, the scooter doesn't hold that much since it's kind of expensive.

100 octane is a total waste of money. It has way less energy in a gallon of it compared to 87. I have always used 87 in all my scooters, and even in 1200cc bandit. I did find with the bandit and 87 in the hot summer it got balky at low rpm's.
When the chinese book says high octane that is equivelant to low octane in this country. They measure it differently.
Spending a lot more for real gas is another story. It is worth at least paying 10% more just on the extra energy it contains. (and even more to not get the water) john

Is it as costly as $4.48 a gallon I paid for non ethanol (91 octane) last Thursday? Regular (87 octane, 10% ethanol), was priced at $3.79....that's $.69 a gallon difference....but, since new, my average mpg has been 75....that figures out to less than 1 penny per mile extra cost, to run non ethanol....1/2 oz of MMO per fill up doesn't hurt either....well worth it , to me anyhow....Bob

I run the best gas I can get for my scooter. When I first got my scooter I got 87 octane and didn't notice any difrence. I am not really sure if it maters? I no one guy on here says he uses the cheap stuff and never had a problem. I can only hold a gallon so putting plus in doesn't bother me. When I fill up I usually can't even get a gallon in it. That gets me every time glad not to be running a vehicle that cost 80 dollars to fill.
I wish more people rode scooters they would save a bunch of money per year compared to running a full size vehicle plus people would be more acceptable of doing the speed limit due to scooters can only go the speed limit for the most part. Some of the bigger scooters 200 and up I guese you could get a speeding ticket.
A lot of the time when I stop at a gas station people ask me how many miles to the gallon I get and I tell them 60 to 70 and they say I should get one. I tell them I can always use someone to ride with. I see scooters here in Pittsburgh but mainly motorcycles wish there was a scooter club could ride with.
To whom reads remember your savings at the pump and the enjoyment of getting around cheap.

we used to have a club around here. i never looked into it. they were all 15-18 years old and in high school ( i talk like im so far removed at 20 lol) and went around beeping horns, all had performance exhausts. not very likable. i didnt want to be affiliated with that.
i buy premium because i consider the 10.5:1 comp ratio of the gy6 to be high compression. the razz gets 87 as it has only a 6.3:1 comp ratio.
