Not good. You want a battery that fits perfectly and with more amps. Who recommended the small battery to you? Trying to remember... it was most likely the shop I bought my bike from. I remember going to Walmart and they didn't have a match.

Take a photo of your battery including the model number so we can recommend a new one. Will do. I'll also get you the picture you wanted of the tires too. I wish I had the original battery to show! This one I got about 2 years ago to replace it, and it's like half the size almost; you can hear it clunking around in there when I hit big bumps. Alrighty, I'll just redo the whole thing and give it some muscle this time. Ohh interesting... I'll try that and let you know what happens.

Are you sure the plug is in nice and snug, sounds like maybe it is leaking around the plug which would cause very hard startings until with all the explosions going on it got hot enough to expand the metal a little and stop most of the compression loss. Okay, just went out to re-tighten it to discover I didn't put the cap (called ignition coil?) on tight because it pulled right off. I tried tightening the spark plug, it already felt snug, so I put the cap back on hopefully a little better and started it cold. I feel now that I should've loosened the spark plug and re-tighten it to reseal it...? So after basically only re-putting the cap back on just now, the first two starts it gave 4 puffs and died. The third start I gave it a little gas (~2k rpm) for 1 second and it idled fine. Definitely improvement but not sure if it's right. Do I need to worry about how hard I push the cap in? It gave a click going in, so I thought it was done (rollingwrench's video said make sure it clicks). The first time I ever went in there it was VERY hard to pull the cap out, but it's nothing like that now. Am I just being too gentle?

Okay continuing from my oil thread, trying to keep everything in one place for less confusion! I got the new spark plug in. Here's what happened: The bike would fire up, give one puff of air, then die... nothing new for me really; sometimes it just needs a little gas for the first second or 2. It hasn't needed that lately so I kept trying without gas. After 3 times of "start, puff, dead," the starter kept locking up like it used to (I'll explain the sound it makes below). After like 10 tries of that, it finally unstuck, and I gave it a little gas to help it stay running and from there everything has been fine so far. I did a test ride, everything was flawless. But why was it so hard to start the first time, is that normal after a spark plug change? Or possibly my battery is just dying or too weak and small? (4 amp hour battery)... the battery was sounding half dead after all this. Without any sound samples I'll try to explain the sound the starter makes when it "locks up"... just imagine if you had a tool to lock the starter gear and hit the button to start it... it would move a couple centimeters but then is stuck... then let go of the button and it moves back a couple cm. That's exactly what it seems like happens. I'll get a video sample of this some day when it happens again.

Awesome, I'll get the new spark plug in tomorrow if the weather stays nice and post back! My rear tire was changed earlier this year. I'm actually wondering about my front one because I see green lines on it. I'll take a picture of them both tomorrow as well. I think I'm gonna continue my posts on my other thread as I've got all the oil stuff figured out now, and I'm having a hard time remembering which thread has which topics. Hope everyone's okay with that? Here: scooterdoc.proboards.com/thread/12182/trying-lower-rpm-rollersSo I'll put up the pictures there Mike!

Okay, belt time... just went into the CVT to check the size. I barely could read it, it's so faded. 842-20-30 I found a Gates Powerlink belt that was suggested to me: www.ebay.com/itm/161466913669But, is there anything cheaper that's still decent quality? Thank you

Hi, I just got my new spark plug today.. $2.99! Here's a couple pictures... old one, new one, and measuring the new one with a ruler. Not sure exactly what "gap" I'm supposed to measure on the spark plug so I'm hoping you guys could tell me! Thanks

I keep coming across videos once in a while videos of people's trucks, cars, and motorcycles getting stuck on or worse, stuck full throttle and it made me think, what if it ever happened to me, especially on a scooter? I heard of people with motorcycles put it in like 4th gear and dump the clutch to stall it, but on a scooter it's all automatic, so how could you stop it? How would you fix it afterwards also?
I'm terrified of this happening because a couple years ago I wanted to killswitch my scooter while going 40mph because of a weird noise I heard, but it kept running with no throttle all the way until I slowed down enough for the CVT and clutch to "neutral" the engine, then it finally died. So after that experience, I feel my killswitch is useless except at a stop.

Uh oh... does it need to be the padded one then? Is that to not damage the spark plug? This is what I've got:

Good job. Now windex your leaky valve to find the leak, and buy a new spark plug. You will also need a new CVT belt soon if it has never been changed. I agree that you should stop paying shops to "fix" your scooter. Just let us teach you. Alleyoop is as good as any mechanic in the world. Did you use an oil syringe to fill the gear oil? Or did you just squirt it in directly from the bottle? (either way is fine) I realized the gear oil container had a little tip on it, so I thought I'd just try on its own and once I got the hole poked big enough on the container, the oil went in good. Probably would have been much quicker this first time with the syringe though lol... I must have been out there for 30 minutes squeezing that bottle, and then a little kid came up and said why don't you make the hole bigger? So I re-poked it with a toothpick and was done really quick. That made his day when I told him it worked. I'll do the Windex trick soon. Will it still bubble up even if my tire isn't leaking at the moment? It hasn't leaked any air for about 2 weeks now. Crazy tire. The spark plug is at least as old as the bike, and could've been used as far as I know like everything else that shop uses, so good idea... I'm a little afraid of it is all, but I'll just have to see some videos on how easy it is to change, and then that'll convince me to go buy one and do it! I guess my biggest worry is I'd have to take the whole engine out or something... is it normally as easy as taking the seat off and reaching somewhere in there? I'm definitely gonna change out the belt before I do the rollers and see how that affects things on its own, and then do the rollers afterwards. Just waiting on my variator removal tool to get here sometime late next month before I go back into the CVT cover... or maybe I should get in there now and order one because these things take so long to get here sometimes. Electric start has been working wonderful ever since fixing the brake switches! (I had to squeeze the front switch connectors a little because they kept losing connection... I caught on to that when I kept putting the plastic cover on and it stopped working every time.)

Well I got the gear oil in and just on time before the trip, success! So it's all filled up with new oil everywhere. Turns out I had a lot in there still, and it was dark like coffee. I was looking at the gear oil sticker on the bike and it says GL-3 only but the one I got was GL-4 and GL-5 (Valvoline 80w90)... hope that's okay? A quick online search said it's fine, so I put it in. I've got enough left probably for another 10-20,000 miles. static.pepboys.com/images/productImages/1743100/VV831%20VAL%20HP%20GEAR%20OIL%2080W90%20QT-Front.jpgmike932, I took your advice about doing the filler bolt first. I would have been freaking out if I didn't because it was on there PRETTY TIGHT. I thought I broke something when it came loose with the muscle I was putting into it because it made a pop sound, but everything seems fine. I can see where someone once upon a time broke the edge of my CVT cover right at that bolt. One more reason I'm done going to these shady local shops around here. You actually own the exact scooter that I was considering getting in the future. I even wanted an orange one because orange is very visible to motorists. The fact that yours is doing well despite lack of maintenance makes me want it even more. I think every time it's left me stranded on the road was always related to the CDI. My most recent breakdown was just the CDI connection came loose. First breakdown was the CDI too. Okay gonna answer a few of your questions from earlier: Mine isn't the TaoTao150, not really sure what it is exactly lol, but looking in various places on the bike it has these keywords: Chongquing, Bashan, 2008, Peace Sports, VIP, 150cc. I don't have the manual, and not sure where or how to find the manual online... I've tried but no luck.

Thank you all, great advice and tips, I'm gonna wake up early tomorrow and get everything needed for the gear oil and do it ASAP. I've got a longer than usual trip tomorrow on the scooter so I'm really worried going so far might be pushing it with such old gear oil. Especially because I accidentally leaked a small puddle of it out a couple weeks ago (I was doing the CVT and got the wrong bolt...). Story time!: My scooter has really put up with me... When I bought my bike, the shop confused me and I thought I was supposed to bring it back for its first oil change after 1500 miles. Yes... I'm talking about the break-in first oil change that you do at like 100 miles... I went at 1800. I only recently found out how horrible I've been to my bike in so many ways without knowing it. But one thing I think I did good was during break-in, I never accelerated more than 20-30% throttle, did side roads, and kept rpm at 4k and went a little under speed limit... so I was very gentle to it for a long time. My riding style has changed since I started watching MotoVloggers and hearing about how going slow is a safety hazard etc... so no more of that, but I'm sure on my next bike I'll baby it too, but this time without accidentally torturing it at the same time... ugh... my poor scooter. But, it still runs great somehow! So it's time to fix it all up like it deserves.

Ohh cool, I'll go get a syringe then! Awesome tip, thank you. It's definitely time for gear oil... I was so excited I did my motor oil that I forgot about gear oil still needs done, so thank you for reminding me! I only recently found out that existed and needs changed.. you don't wanna know how long it's been. I'm gonna check tomorrow if there's any label near the gear oil bolt, because if not, I have no idea which numbers I'm supposed to get... Here's something else on the side of my bike... any ideas?
