I hope that I have picked a proper place to introduce myself (Please, forgive me, if not?)
And my newly rescued (Hopefully) scooter !
I've been reading through the forum on and off for a couple of days. Even a couple of peeps on You Tube scooter video threads suggested that others drop in here. So I did!
I've been on a quest this week to get a feel for whether a scooter that I have been considering rescuing would be a good thing or, a possible disaster . There wasn't much at risk, other than being stuck with a heap that I'd need to unload somehow. My neighbor has owned it for about 3 years but has no particular knowledge or inclination to work on this scooter that has been stalling out on him lately. He hasn't really taken care of it, that's what worried me most. He's a good and easy going guy, just not too savvy so, I had no worry that I was being fooled into anything. It's running and he says it runs strong too . I've heard it running. The back tire has no air so, it's parked . He doesn't know how to troubleshoot it, is the kind of person that isn't interested in such things as smart-phones and Internet for research or anything else, for that matter. He says that it has been stalling after about 5 miles of travel then, after a cool down of say 20-30 Min's will start back up. I've read many opinions of what could be happening, CDI, Coil, Carburetor varnish, torn diaphragm on fuel valve, gas cap vent plugged, vacuum hoses, and others which all could be but, I have not had a day with it yet to even have a look see over it. I may be able to, later today, 10/17/2015.
SO, to make what could be a drawn out story short, I rescued the scooter today for $75! I made the decision to take the leap partially because, I saw the friendly interactions in this forum and could see that the most of the posters here interact well and are mostly, an enthusiastic bunch! It made me feel secure in that there ARE places to go with this interest that are not crawling with trolls
But also, due to the thread that I read last here last night, " Are all Chinese scooters junk?? " I felt assured that Chinese scooters CAN behave very well if they are treated well. Also, I've seen that parts are not exorbitant and are pretty readily available . I'm a girl that has always jumped in, out of necessity to do the work on her own vehicles since I was a teenager (Never-mind when THAT was ) . Then, I grew to like doing it. I don't consider myself necessarily sharp, where mechanics are concerned. I'm just a gal that is somewhat familiar to it and willing. I'm excited about diving into shine up this diamond in the rough (And I mean, a BIT rough) that, it may or , may not be!
So, what is it then? GOOD QUESTION! Lol!
Here's what I've been able to glean from title, registration, and identifying marks on the scooter and I'll post pics below.
What I KNOW is:
1. ENG # 157QMJ080733482
2. On the title : 2008 SHENK
3: VIN #L8YTCKPD38Y011579
4: On a plate on the scooter :ENG Class= 8JNYCO, 15NFG, YY150T-2
5: It has "VENETO" in decals in two places (Strange , a Chinese bike by an Italian name?) but, cannot find a single scooter by that name, on the NET.
What I THINK, from what I've found comparing and searching the Internet is:
1: Is a 150cc GY6 engine
2. Often referred to as a T150-2 (Sounds very general though)
3: SHANGHAI SHENKE seems to be a company that a Co. named JONWAY distributed some bikes for.
I hope, I didn't forget anything but, probably did!
So, here is a pic that looks VERY much like it but it much better condition:
And here is the $75 version!
Yup! That's some weird thing he did, to use as a seat, lol! It just lifts right off of there.
So, I look forward to interacting with you all ! Hopefully, some of you have some idea and can enlighten me in some way as to what this scooter is and where YOU would get started on the troubleshooting ? I'll need to Identify a correct battery before I can do any testing ("12 Volt APTX9 Sealed AGM battery" ? ), also a seat and a rear tire, would be a good start! Lol!
Hey folks, thanks for being here!
