Here's the scoop on the scoot. Found the gas problem. Screw was loose on the carb drain. Screwed it back in and put some fingernail polish on the threads so it won't back out again. Adjusted the valves. Not fun but got-er done. Started up the scoot and herd a lot of tapping. Re-adjusted the valves, started her back up and she quieted down. When I started the scoot up , I still had to pump the throttle to get her to start. Now I did say that I had a new carb to replace the original carb. But lets try 1 more thing before I have to go to all that trouble. I removed the new enricher from the new carb and installed it in the the old carb. Time to start the scoot. First hit of the starter and she started. Wa-LA. Now I just got home from work and the temperature is in the 50's and I'm going to go out and try to start the scoot. Be right back.... STARTED, First kick. Thanks for all the help. Plastics go on in the morning.

Scooter is naked !!!!!!!! What I need to know is, Which way do I turn the crank shaft nut to put the valves where they line up with the mark through the hole above the dip stick??? righty tighty or lefty loosey? Got-er done thanks to the Doc JR. The valves were tight. I mean couldn't even begin to put the feeler gauge .004 in the intake or the .006 in the exhaust. I had to back out the exhaust quite a bit.. It's dark, so I had to put the tools and the big parts in the garage for a couple of days until I can get back to it. I did notice that there was air in the fuel filter. Is this normal?

1st. I am ridding a Mc-54-250B and a red, fast one just like ( you know who ) El Doctor Jr. Got to tell you that I pump the throttle several times between trying to start the scoot. Like 3 pumps each time. I'm probably flooding the carb while doing this but eventually it kicks over a couple of times and then it will start. I have a little over 9200 miles on it now. I did a valve setting somewhere around the 1200 mile mark and I believe it needs it again. I'm going to remove the plastics and then hook back up the battery and the CDI and try to start the scoot again. While I have the plastics off I'm going to cut out the bottom of the battery compartment for easy valve settings in the future. ( I read, therefore I learn ). I have a new carb setting in the garage for an easy exchange. Should the new carb be pre-set? Or do I have to try and set the screws ? Turn the screws in all the way and the back them out how many turns to start with? Cruiser, I changed out the fuel lines and the fuel filter when I did the pdi at around 600 miles and then around 5000 miles. Whidehide, Now that you have shaken my brain a little, I do remember the carb drain and the screw that will drain the carb bowel. ( this might be the problem ) I'll check it. Thanks ! Actually, I think that I will do a complete PDI and then go from there. Might as well as long as I'm going to have the plastics off. Thanks for all the help.

Had to go get dinner this evening and I thought that I would take the scoot. Backed her out of the garage, turned the key on and cranked her over, wouldn't start. Continued to crank her over several times before it would even start to run. Finaly, it started. Now, I need to know what may be the culprit besides a valve setting if there is any. ( I noticed a puddle of gas on the ground and also a very good gas smell.) Hummmmmmmmmm., any sugestions?

Today, I made about a 125 mile ride . I stopped 3 times, and each time I went to start the scoot, I had to try several times before I got it to start. It is definitely time to do the valve adjustment. I was trying to stall it out until winter for a project but I better do it now. JEESH!

Very nice looking scoot Denise. You're right, take it easy on the first few rides just to get used to the feel of the scoot. Also, get all the safety gear and wear it, gloves, helmet, even a heavy coat or a leather jacket helps in case you have a spill. Did I mention a heavy shoe or boot that goes above the ankle. It helps a lot.

I really don't know if this has anything to do with it but today as I was ridding to work I was running about 60-70 mph and doing fine. In about 20 miles into the trip, the scooter dies. I mean no go, kaput. I put on the turn signal and coasted over to the side of the road. Came to a complete stop, put my feet down and tried to restart . Kicked right off and started and I was back on the road and heading to work. No problems the rest of the way to work. What the heck is going on

Gas mileage seems to be dropping. Could this be that the valves need to be reset? I have over 9000 miles on the scoot now. I have taken off the air filter, cleaned it, oiled it and replaced it and the mileage still hasn't picked up. Running 60 mph slowing down to make a turn, I here a backfire. I here it backfire just once, not anymore. Is there a standard mileage for setting the valves or just whenever the scoot starts acting up? For example, every 1000 miles, or 1500 miles?

Wow CC, took the old tumble hu! It does happen quickly, as a blink of an eye. I'm glad someone came to your rescue cause many people would have ignored the situation and kept on going. Anyway, I'm glad you are OK. Little scrapes and bruses but it takes a long time to heal as we get older. I'm sure you are finding that out. Take a pic of the muffler shield. I have a shield in the garage for a 250-b. Will be glad to send it to you.

Wow Damin69, I'm really sorry about your bad luck. Hope you get this settled soon. J.R. Doesn't this sound like someone we know? Maybe Rebecca? ?
