It's simple math really. People throw out numbers like "I'm doing 7,500 rpm at a cruise and hitting 8,500 on top" Do you know what that is? How about 7,500 rpm equals 125 piston rotations per second. The valves open and close half as much at 62.5 times per second. 8,500 rpm is a mere 142 piston spins per second with the valves operating a scant 71 times per second. A certain person told me he saw 9,000 before the blow up. Only a mere 150 rotations per second with the valves slamming 75 times per second. Did I mention that all those rotations are every second?
A little smoke at warmup? Ignore it. Once the guide heats up after a few zillion rpm in the first 15 seconds the 5cc of accumulated oil stops burning. Also since you've just rebuilt the engine a couple of times your rings might not be totally seated.

So true Rich. I bought my Bashan from GS Motorworks and it's been a champ. I know somebody who bought two Bashans from somebody else and one was nothing but trouble and the other had its frame bend when the owner tied it down too hard on a trailer. You can pay me now or pay me later.
10,000 km is still 6,214 miles and nothing to sneeze at from a 3 cubic inch engine.

For a couple of years Zongshen built the Piaggio Fly 150, they are a first class outfit. Nice bike sj. I know from my 50cc Cub clone that the Chinese can build a solid product. Good luck and enjoy the ride.

I had a friend with a 125 Vino on Long Island who had a similar problem only she could kick start it. The rear brake switch went bad so she squeezed the front brake to start it with the electric starter.

I am pretty sure most all the chinese speedo's are all km. I am sure they just have 2 face plates to choose from, mph or km. None of my scooters measure Km. I have a driveway .9 of a mile down the road that I checked via GPS for reference. Both the Fashion and the 150cc Bashan indicate .9 also. Rocket indicates 1.5 to that point. Oddly enough many Kymcos are in Km. You would think a large company would send speedometers useful to the country they were exporting to.

I may be wrong about this, but I would think that your odometer is counting kilometers, since the speedo's primary numbers are KPH...still pretty impressive, and twice the distance I've put on my 2011 150cc...you must be doing something right...keep it up.....Bob I would have to see it in action to judge the mileage. Rocket's speedometer only has MPH as the speed and yes, it's truly MPH. No KPH anywhere, yet the odometer measures Kilometers.

I just read over the weekend of a guy with a 150cc scooter that he SOLDwith 47,000 miles on it. The myth that Chinese scooters aren't good will linger for a while, but we'll know the truth and keep cashing in.

You have a vacuum leak somewhere. I had a scooter do exactly the same thing. When you start it listen for a hissing sound. That will tell you that you where it is. Also spray around the carburetor and intake manifold with WD 40 and see if the idle picks up. If it does you may have a leaking manifold or the carb is loose.

The Honda Elite was a good example of the Japanese looking at what a vehicle needed to last and built them that way. Last year Matt at Parts for Scooters linked a story on Facebook about two guys taking 1985 Elites, cleaning them up and riding from New York to LA. I said two things. "If somebody wrote that they took a 1985 Gold Wing cross country would you consider that a miracle?" I also said, just so he'd know who Jim Zeiser was, "I would think a story about somebody riding a Chinese scooter from Maine to Key West would be more exciting. Oh wait, we've been through that debacle already."
That is a pretty scooter. Ride it well, care for it and it will serve you for a long time. They were built to last. They changed the scooter world forever when they came out.

Check the valve clearances or run Seafoam in the gas tank. It sounds like you're losing either compression or running a lean mixture after the choke signs off.

The 150 Elite and all their mid 80s scoots are the Gold Standard of scooters. Honda built it like a plastic covered motorcycle and it was a revelation to the scooter world. A little TLC will have you happy for years.
