Okay I guess I will go ahead and set them to Specs, I just wanted to make sure I didn't jump the gun and do it too early and bend something. Because truthfully I've never had or seen a scooter start so easy...it's like baby touch to the button and poof she's running...almost like if you were turning a pedal by hand and it just coast back around and its running.

I just installed a motor on my 2013 Taotao EVO 150 that I rebuilt and was told to leave the valves a little loose at 1st until everything seats . The scoot starts super easy and idles smooth and stable at about 1800-1900, she accelerates quick and runs strong, but she does have a little valve tick( I put the Intake at .020" and exhaust at .024) I am told they need to be at .004 for Intake and .006 for exhaust...
It's been about 25 miles since I did the engine swap and rebuild, do you think it's time to tighten them up ?

I just changed my drive belt on my TaoTao EVO 150cc last Saturday (4 days ago) and yesterday (Tuesday) it broke on my way to work and I know the belt was put on correctly and everything tighten back down right as I have done this procedure several times in the past with no problems and I'm not sure why it broke this time The reason I changed the belt was mainly a preventive maintenance thing as it had been on since I bought the scooter exactly 2 years ago (it had 1260km & now has 8150km) and when I pulled the old one off it had a little wear on the outside edge for about 3 inches but it didn't look that bad and there were some marks on the bottom of the case where it had been slapping from stretching but not real black. The one thing I did notice was that my clutch had a bluish purple tint to it, like it had been getting Hot...which would for sure be a sign of a problem, but I didn't have another clutch and neither did my local scooter shop, so I had to leave it on. What I'm having a problem with is the fact that with my old belt on, my scooter was running just fine. but 3 days and 25km after putting a new belt on, it shredded... Is it possible I got a defective belt ? Should I have rode slower to break in the new belt ? Was the new belt putting more tension on an already worn out clutch and sped up the overheating process and the clutch plates melted the belt ? or did I just reach critical mass and velocity point of no return and all hell broke loose ? I'm asking for advice as I am going to have to put things back together and would like some suggestions on what to change when I buy new parts ? Kevlar belt ? New variator ? New Clutch (obviously)...should I go with performance parts or stock ? NOTE : only mods I have made to the bike is a blue CDi, Orange coil and orange wire and a 3 prong plug. Any helpful suggestions will be welcome ., Brian

Hey Alleyoop, thanks for the pics that show where the "Tabs" are at, maybe it will make it easier to pry apart. I couldn't find them for nuttin and I was looking thru the opening under the handle bars with a flash light and couldn't see crap. I had to Work Saturday at 2PM until Midnight and Sunday it rained here so I haven't had a chance to go outside and try to get it apart yet, but as soon as I get another cup of coffee in me I'm gonna go try and take it apart again. I'll post again here when I do (or don't) get it apart with a couple of pictures and how I got it apart and back together.

Does any body know how to get apart the Dash on a TaoTao EVO 150cc scooter ? I have taken the mirrors off and the 4 screws in the side you can see from sitting on the bike, plus the other one in the front of the fairing, but I can not get the 2 pieces apart, I have lightly pried on them and wiggled them but I'm afraid to put too much pressure on them as it seems like they will break. BTW the reason I want to get them apart is because of the black part in the middle is cracked and so is the underside of the right front side thats red and every time I hit a bump the cracks have been getting bigger, so I want to repair them with epoxy. I've watched a video of someone taking the pieces off to change a speedo cable and it look like he just kept prying until they separated...are there TABS that need to come apart ? or is it really just that hard to get apart ? I don't want to break it, but I do need to get it apart. I have included a picture of what part it is and where the screws are located. Any help would be great.

Really ? I put the 80" one the shop up next to mine and the housing was about 3" shorter.
Have you replaced one on a TaoTao EVO 150cc ? Personally I think it will work because mine had a big wide cure going on to make it to my carb and I think there was plenty of room to reduce the length by and inch or 2.

thanks for taking the time to answer, they only had an 80" one and a 90" and they wanted $25 for it, the 90" one is a bit long, but I swear I've got enuf room, and personally think the 80" one would work because mine did have a wide loop under the seat. I've just trying to find the right one. Charlotte Scooter Shop sells TaoTao's but doesn't carry the cables to fit them...he said he could order one...hell I can order one !! cheaper to..,
I really didn't think it would be so hard to find the exact one though ??
I need it ASAP, but I don't want to waste my money buying the wrong part...
I'm guess unless I learn more tonight I guess tomorrow I'll call a couple more places and if no luck, I saw a guy on Ebay that has a store that sells nothing but scooter parts and he has an 83" cable for $14.99 with free shipping and he only lives about 60 miles a way.
I do appreciate the reply and when I find out what works I will post it on here so others will know.

Going to work today I somehow snapped the throttle cable on my TaoTao 150cc EVO (2013), I was barely doing 25mph at the time, so it wasn't like I was trying to crank it wide open for hours... my scoots only got 3106km on it so I am like...huh ?
After a lot of work I finally managed to get the broken cable out (pain in the arse) it looked like it was a clean cut, but it was in the housing so I know nothing funny happened.
My problem is the local scooter shop here in Charlotte only had a 80" and a 90" cable, and they told me those won't work ... I measured the housing (it has angles on both ends) and its about 78" and I know both sides have a couple of inches sticking out.. So what I need to know is how long is it suppose to be ? Do I have to have the exact one ? or can I use an 80" one ? I've got some play in the way it routes thru the body, not much but a little.
So far at the online scooter stores I've found, they say different things, the closest I've found to being longer than an 80" is a 83.4" (at motorpartsmax.com) #231-999016.
Is this the right one?
I'd sure appreciate some help, cause she's my only wheels...

Ok I just read the entire post you sent me to check out. Some good advice about installing a cutoff switch on the battery ( I have been thinking about doing that myself, but trying to find the drain is what I would rather do ). My TaoTao EVO doesn't have a clock, so I know that's not the problem. My Jonway did, but it had a watch battery to power it when the key was off. I guess I'm going to have to pull the body off and take my tester to the battery/rectifier and every place else I can find. ....battery parasites !!! LMAO

Hey thanks for the reply, I have turned the bike off without putting it in the locked position and it still drains the battery. How do you suggest I test where the drain is coming from ?

I have a problem with my 2013 TaoTao EVO 150cc that is baffling everybody I have talked to, so maybe one of you can give me some help. OK, the problem is that if I park my Scoot and accidently leave the turn signal on, turn the key off, (I usually turn it to the handle bar lock position) and remove the key, the battery will die over night.
When my key is in the off or in the handle bar locked position and removed from the bike, nothing will work ( horn, lights, blinker, etc. ) and that's the way its suppose to be...so why is my battery draining ?
I don't have an alarm, a stereo hooked up, or any other accessories, I have taken the whole body off and checked every wire to see if anything was grounding out...nothing...all the wiring looks factory perfect.
Fortunately I have a spare battery on a trickle charger 24/7, so if I do forget to turn off the blinker, I can swap them out and put the other one back on my charger. (both batteries are new and will take a full charge overnight). NOTE: my kick starter does work, but feels really weak compared to the one on the 150cc Jonway I had. I mean it will start the bike after a couple of tries, but it feels "soft".. maybe it's a TaoTao thing ??
It just doesn't make any sense that with the key turned off and removed I'm draining my battery just because I forgot to turn the blinker off. There shouldn't be any power flowing !! cause last I heard Off is Off....lol
any help or advice you can lend would be appreciated...

P.S. I bought this scoot in March with only 600 km on her from a landlord that got it from a tenant that went to jail and didn't pay his rent, for $600, she's in perfect shape and runs great. I have just finished breaking her in at 3000km and with all new fluids, she'll run between 60 & 65mph but I haven't really pushed her yet.....no need to

Hey Alleyoop, I never said I kept cranking to get it to start. My scoot starts on the first push of the button. Always has. So there is nothing wrong with my ignition.
Right now everything seems back to normal as I just road across town here in Charlotte and stopped 4 times and it started back up with no problem. And on the 1st push of the button and not giving it any gas, I never have to give it any gas to get it started. when she's cold, she idles at about 3000rpm but after about a minute she drops down to 2000rpm and away I go. I got 2460km so far ( I bought the scoot in April from a landlord that got it in exchange for past due rent from a tenant ) I've changed the oil, rear end fluid, spark plug and cleaned the air filter, it wasn't really dirty but I did it anyway. This TaoTao 150cc EVO is just about broke in and will easily run 60+ (an I weigh 200lb) and I haven't pushed it yet.
But just to be safe, I'm going to pick up another Starter relay/solenoid...Amazon sells em for less than 10 bucks and it only takes about 15 minutes to swap one.

Ok, here's what I did this morning: 1st tried to connect the battery back up, but as soon as I touched both wires to the battery terminals the scoot tried to start and sparks flew. So I set the battery to the side. Then I removed the seat, located the Starter Relay and pulled it out of its rubber holding grommet, slipped back the rubber covers over the wires where they connect to the terminals. I was going to dry them because I was thinking maybe they were wet because we have had a lot of rain lately and they were jumping current across, but they weren't wet, I checked if they were tight, and they were.
Ok so now I took a 16oz hammer and gave the side of the Relay a couple of BIG WHACKS !!, no not really, I just tapped it a couple of times on the side and bottom.
and then I tried to hook the battery back ...I got no spark and it didn't try to start, so I stuck my key in and held the brake lever and hit the start button and...wait for it...waaaaaaait...Vaarrooom !! and the starter was not trying to keep running. I shut it off and tried again 5 more times with no problems. So I'm saying its fixed. Ok Now, why did it happen ? this is a pretty new scoot, with only 2400km on it and I take dam good care of her.
Here's my thought: ok recently I've been having an issue with my battery dying and it makes it hard to start the scoot so I've used the kick starter a few times when I've been away from home. When I get home I swap the battery with the other one I have on a charger and I'm good to go. So I always have a fresh battery or if a friend needs a spare. Why does my battery die occasionally ? well I'm terrible about turning off my turn signal when I pull in my parking lot...( now why that should drain my battery if my key is off, baffles me...any idea anybody ? it did it on my 2009 Jonway 150 too...) But back to my thought: I was trying to start the scoot with a low battery and when I hit the starter button it only had enuf power to open the relay for the starter and not enuf for it to close, so the power kept flowing...sounds plausible to me....any input on that anybody ?? the battery that was about out of juice was hot to the touch also.
But for now its back to normal with a freshly charged battery and I'm good to go.
any comments anybody may have are welcome.
Thanks again, and I hope this may help somebody else one day.
Brian
