True performance CDIs from companies like NCY have larger capacitors, they jack the spark voltage, can operate at higher RPMS and they may have some spark advance...but they are expensive. 95% of people that use them find no difference from stock...however they are very reliable.. that is why I use one. www.scootertronics.com/ncycdi.htmlThey have no rev limiter which is true but most stock CDIs don't have rev limiters now either...

There ARE real performance parts .. they are made by NCY, Hoco and Ruima, Prodigy, Dr. Pulley, Gates and Bando etc
Tune your CVT first .. the engine costs lots of money for little return...
For what you are spending just buy a 150cc..you will top out at about 55mph...and you still won't be able to ride it on any freeways...
90% of performance parts only do a performance on your wallet.. it takes your money out FAST!!!
Most are crap...

Replace the regulator/rectifier...sounds like it is bad...or you have a stator/regulator mismatch..fairly common problem...
Your voltage shouldn't be reversed...

Make certain that filter is in the line the right way around.. it should have a flow arrow on it...the big end points towards the carb..downstream...

Could be a flakey pick-up coil but I would also investigate the variator weights as Alley suggested...
Still when you are 1/2 throttle and you give it more gas... the engine revs should increase...if the engine revs go up but you go no faster then you need lighter weights...
The weights, in effect, shift the power curve of the engine...

There probably isn't a rev limiter if it is a 150cc...but you should be getting power increases from 1/2 to WOT however.. something isn't right maybe the throttle cable needs adjusting? Other thoughts are the pick-up coil is topping out or the CDI maybe getting old and the capacitors aren't charging fast enough anymore...

That brown stuff is varnish from the old gas.. you want to run a fine wire through the main jet and remove it from inside there as well. If you have it in the float bowl it is in the main jet too...

Yeah for the aggravation, I would buy a new carb...keep the old one for parts...

Some engines have the ground wire attached just above the fan...may save you some trouble.

If the cylinder is badly scored you need to replace the jug, the piston and put on new rings...
Then, adjust the valve gaps...

Cheap way of doing a reserve! only use the half the tank!!!! LOL...I agree just cut the tube down or remove it and use an inline fuel filter...for a gravity feed engine...like a snowblower, generator, lawn tractor etc... Attachments:

I didn't think you could put the float needle on the float wrong.. the wire goes over the top of the metal tang and the float needle goes into the hole...
