JR your last post is a diversion. I just looked at this post again and the first quote, the one you asked if I wrote is incomplete you left off the part I had the problem with. You did a "convenient" copy and paste. I never expected that sort of thing from you. I started that previous post by saying I agree to disagree on most of this. With that I'm out of the argument you are continuing to make ,you are an intelligent man who knows what "agree to disagree" means. As far as your contention that you never misquoted me. You said i made the comment that people "ONLY" come hear when they have a problem when i clearly never wrote those words. Please show me where I said "ONLY". I never wrote it. Your post claims I did. Ok if not a misquote it's putting words in my mouth. Still not how gentleman interact. Have an outstanding day. Be Big, AMAC
Sir you're the one dancing around with your words, this is your statement to the letter and the implications are simple and obvious, if people come to these forums before they buy they more than likely will not buy a scooter they have to wrench on they will pay more and let someone else do it, this is a opinion and everyone may or may not share that opinion, now did you say putting words in one's mouth? Yes I'm intelligent enough to "read between the lines"
Now I did say "only" so being that's my opinion I'll live by my own contentions and that may or may have not been too broad of a term so I'll rephrase it like you said "many" . Many covers a very broad spectrum when considering the number of people on the planet and the number of people who own scooters. The word in front of many "great" in the English language used here is a adjective which would even make many lean to "only"
JR
JR say what you will but you chose to edit my words to fit what you wanted to say at the moment and that sir is dishonorable . Only now you post the remainder of my comment. "A great many" is far different than "only come here". Had you posted it in the first place I'd have nothing to say. A rather journalistic approach to say the least but even a tabloid has the decency to add the ... In place of the missing words. Now you read between the lines and read my mind to fit your position. You may say I'm dancing but I did no "reading between lines" I took all statements at face value. You edited a quote to fit your needs, period. Good day.

Would you please tell me if you made this statement?
If you did then I in no way misquoted you? Maybe didn't understand your intent but not a misquote. Hard to misquote a copy and paste from your post?
I also don't quite understand this? I agree with the statement that one can expect to do the PDI and need mechanical skills which basically means if you can work on a lawn mower you can work on a scooter, not rocket science?
But then you come back and make this statement?
If by your statement I have the mechanical skills I'm not going to ever need a shop to fix my China scooter but can one say the same thing with the EFI system on the newer Kymco scooters? My reference to links to other forums for name brand was meant simply to point out that people come to those forums to get help too just like they do for Chinese scooters and if one thinks that name brand scooters don't have problems then they aren't being realistic?
Warranties don't last forever even on a name brand scooter and the day comes if you have limited mechanical skills then you are then at the mercy of paying what name brand shops charge and that can run high. Since there are so few c\shops that works on Chinese scooters one can expect to pay only for the parts when they work on them. Got a friend that is a mechanic at a Honda dealership, shop labor per hour = $85 and hour = $100 oil change, ouch!
Myself I'm not ignoring any facts? This is one of those age old subjects like the ones you see about "what kind of oil to use" "ethanol or no ethanol" Chinese or non-Chinese, it'll always be a topic for debate. Debates are formed and made by opinions, some based on fact, some based upon speculation, some based on preferences, some based on nothing more than your right to an opinion, that's why we have free speech, simple as that.
To me it all adds up to what you want to spend, what you want to fix or not fix and as long as you like it, what others think about it doesn't really matter.

In all due respect these are true statements. Most on these forums will agree that if one buys a china scoot, a drop shipped one in particular, they will have a better experience if they have mechanical skills and the desire to work on the bike. With no dealers the PDI is left to the new owner so some wrench turning is required from the get-go. I also think we all have seen some of the crap that is offered online. A wise buyer knows what to look for. As we know just because two scoots look the same they are not. A great many don't come to these forums before they buy they come after looking for help. To say a person who buying a scooter to ride on not work on will be better off with a china scoot over a Kymco, Honda etal is simply ignoring the facts. They require less work and in the long run many will be better off spending more upfront instead of trying to find a shop to work on their china scoot. As far as high-end bag ads, again one mans ceiling is another mans floor. Cheap is a relative term.
You've not been paying attention? Here is three of those crap scooters all 50cc:
www.roketa.com/product/2610/0/38641.shtml
www.jclusa.com/SCOOTER---MOPED-50CC.htm
www.jonway-motor.com/1-yy50qt-6-scooter.html#
All 3 different labels, all 3 identical and I own one just like them with another label. You see in the last 4 or 5 years the Chinese are making all the same parts in one or two places all by the same molds and patterns for one reason, so the places that assemble them can use a uniform system of putting them together. Want to know another thing? I have 5 scooters with 4 of them assembled/made at 4 different places and all 5 of them sport or have Jonway parts especially the body parts, easy to see every part somewhere on them has the origin of where it was made. The word Jonway is on every single headlight and tail light lens on all 5 of made in different places scooters.
Wiring harnesses are being done the same way, I can pull the harness off of my 50cc and it'll plug and play on my 150cc. In earlier years with scooters before 2010 this wasn't the case a lot of times.
You are correct in your term of cheap IMO, kind of like the old saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure" but to say that people only come to these forums for help is a little off base and if you think the Kymco, Honda, etc. scooter owners don't have forums for "help" then I can easily enlighten you with links to them and a wise man knows this too.
One of the reasons there are name brand scooter forums is the term cheap can apply a lot of times when one takes one to the shop and pays $100 for a oil and filter change, people want cheap to apply and it just doesn't work that way with name brand.
It adds to the other old saying "pay me now or pay me later"
JR
Hey JR I also agree to disagree on many of your points. That said I don't like being misquoted, particularly when my original statement is used in a reply. I said: "A great many don't come to these forums before they buy they come after looking for help." I don't know where got ONLY from "great many". I you disagree with the statement that's fine but please be accurate of what you are disagreeing with. To insinuate that I need to be "enlightened" about other brands and forums and you would be willing to educate me is well, less than I expected from you. As a rule you chose your words with more care. Be Big, AMAC SIDENOTE For those who don't visit brand specific forums or who have not been to a Kymco or SYM dealer recently there are issues with both brands supply chain at the moment and some parts may be hard to come by for the short term anyway. Be aware and be prepared. Not a problem that comes up often in the china scoot world as parts abound !

That presupposes that Chinese scooters require a lot more wrenching. I don't see it. www.vespalx150.blogspot.comRead down and see what the maintenance free Vespa needs. Hey I never said a word about Vespas being trouble free. I have also found their dealers are butt holes also. Of course showing that Vespas also need a bunch of wrenching doesn't make a china scoot more reliable. I have a couple of china scoots along with the Taiwanese scoots and I love those two bikes. But they simply require far more PM than the SYM or Kymco. So with that we can agree to disagree. Be Big, AMAC

As they say there is an arse for every seat! many can afford the buy in. many don't see $2400.00 as stratospheric.
Where you wouldn't pay the price for the super 8 another person would. Some see value in their time spent not wrenching and paying more upfront. Others gain the advantage of a lower buy in but will need to twist the wrench.
As far as the 20 plus year old BMW, it would be of no value to this buyer. First I've been there, 20 years ago. Second I don't ride scooters because I can't find a good deal on a used motorcycle I ride them because I enjoy riding them.
The "cheap/expensive" threshold varies wildly from one buyer to the next is all I'm saying. Just my .02

I quit reading after para 1, where he disses Chinese and goes onto the 'quality' scooters, Kymco, Honda , Yamaha. ".................When it comes to cheapskate maxiscooters, you are going to do better if you can perform some or all of your own mechanical work. It's not that the models suggested need a lot of work, it's just that they often involve a LOT of wrench turning for simple maintenance tasks. .............."
................DON'T fall for the too-good-to-be-true new scooters, usually from mainland China. In many cases, these machines are being sold at fairs, swap meets, low end used car lots, auto parts stores, mobile phone stores and so on............. .Scanning the rest of the article is a regurgitation of what we talk about here. So, to me, it's just another 'personal opinion' from someone who has the $$ to buy the best, and disses the rest. Nothing wrong with that article as stated above it leans to those that can't or doesnt want to wrench on a scoot. Everyman has a different deffinition of "cheap".

Scooters, in my opinion, are become dichotomized. Some clown sold me an overpriced SYM maxi scooter and got me to thinking about this. The maxis are not scooters, they don't scoot, they haul arse. And like JCT 842 says, if you don't step through it's not a scooter. I agree. My SYM has a large elevated connection from the seat forward. I have to swing my leg over it albeit from the front. Still, it's no step through. My SYM is typical of most of the larger displacement "scooters", you don't just step through and buzz off looking like Hepburn. I tried....I got arrested. People either want a Hepburn, or a maxi that will keep up with e-way traffic so you don't get killed. My SYM will pop 90, I'd take it on the e-way no problem. If a rider doesn't want that they want the campus type scooter to buzz around side streets or go to the store. There's nothing wrong with either mode of travel, it just seems we're being pulled in two directions. By the way, I don't think maxis should even be called scooters...they don't "scoot". The big boys should be called hybrids, JMO, Rich. That's because those who build scoots insist on making them more and more like cycles. Huge displacement and the weight that goes with it, lack of step thru etc. I agree not scooters as we knew them. That's why I love my SYM RV200. Fast, step thru and lite enough to still "scoot". Unless you got ripped the Citiicom is a great deal in its class, that would be the maxi class as you know ! Be Big, AMAC

The first thing a person says after they hit you is always "I didn't even see you". It's never "I never HEARD you"....... That said I put an arrow exhaust on the RV200 and it adds some "growl"!

Just my .02 but the thing looks industrial and a bit cheap. It's like "the tail wagging the dog". The smooth lines of the scoot get lost on the bends of the tin.
I feel bad for the Burgman ........

I didn't care for the look or the sound of the RV pipe so I put on an Arrow. Looks good, sounds great and there is a slight increase in mid range roll on and top end is now 78 mph. Be Big, AMAC

Nice scoot I'm sure you're love'n it ! I bought the same bike last September and have close to 10,000 trouble free miles. This is my second SYM built scoot, I also have a Lance Cali-Classic 125. IMO the best bang for the buck at the moment. Enjoy and congrats again ,
