Son dropped his scooter on its side last night, took a couple of goes to get it started but fired up. Cut out a few minutes later but again started after a couple of goes and ran ok. Went to the shop went to start it but took a good few goes to get it going. Just wondering if it's been damaged or any other ideas. Also I think the starter motor is on its way out as it takes about 3or4 presses on the button to start . The spark plug has been changed with the battery again any ideas how long it would last or is it time to move on..thanks

Try checking the tappets. My sons scooter had similar issues took it in last week changed the battery and had tbe tappets altered seems to be better did cut out twice but asked my son if its done it again he tells me no. So fingers crossed thats it. Might be worth a look.

The mechanic altered the tappets as they where too tight and put a new battery one and changed the spark plug. Didn't change the starter motor. The scooter starts on either the second or third press of you just give the throttle a bit of a twist. My sonused it for school and football and had no problems with it appart from the starting issue.

Got the scooter back yesterday.. starts on or around the 3rd attempt mechanic recons it needs a new starter motor. Has anybody any idea if it will still be ok to use like this. Also ran great after picking it up after about 8 miles it cut out at the traffic lights but restarted again after 2 attempts mmm dont know what caused that... done it again when I took it out but started up again anf and not done it since. Put it on charge on my optimate over night and no problem starting this morning so fingers crossed its ok now... just hope it's ok with the starter motor. .

Phoned the garage where I took the scooter, told that the tappets where way out and this was effecting the tick over. I was also told that the battery is the original one (about 2 years old ) so thats why the scooter is difficult to start a new one will cost £35. Is that a reasonable price and would anyone say that would be a possible cause.

Think its a fuel problem, started when it was cold the auto choke came on ran fine kept the revs high when stopped and took it back home. Guess what turned off and restarted but no joy. Took the line off the vacuume and when I pressed the start button fuel came out so thats ok. It must be the valves or carb I think. It tries to fire but it wont thats what is draining the battery I think.

Thanks. It's difficult to start on the kick, when its warm its fine but when cold there's noway it's starts. When you start on the electric start you need to give it a bit of throttle to fire it up. Would love to use it but can't because its unreliable. Scooter shop said to get the carb cleaned and possibly the tank but I don't want to throw money drown the drain.. Thanks

Managed to get our Jonway qt50 got it running last night and been out on it today. Went to go back out about 2 hours later but wouldnt turn over and battery flat. Recharged the battery eventually started but cut out again. No it wont start even after heating the spark plug. Checked the fuel filter and reconected the pipe but no joy.. any ideas thanks.. put the battery back on charge and it fired up after a few goes went out for a spin but cut out after about 3 mins and wouldn't restart so pushed it home back on charge and the optimizer is saying Recovery... when it stopped it was -2 so dont know if that had anything to do with it.Thanks

I thought that just hope it's nothing more than a new battery. It wouldn't start on the kick either but all the lights and indicators are working fine so no problems there. We will take if for a good run for about and hour or so and leave it overnight and see what happens. One thing though how does a scooter charge it's battery

Thanks. I bought the scooter in December not sure when it was last used. The scooter will be used on a regular basis from now on as my son has passed his test. When I had it going yesterday it stated while connected to the optimizer and showed 13v I disconnected it and after about 5 mins I turned it off when I tried to turn back on it was dead connected the optimizer back up and showed 11.9 v ... Fingers crossed it just needs a good run

Hi I have a Jonway Qt 50cc . The scooter has not been ridden for 3 months I got it started by heating the spark plug and putting the battery on my optimizer. The scooter starts ok but when I take the charger off and try and start it after a couple of hours it won't start it needs to be charged again. The spark plug is black at the bottom and smells of petrol , I am wondering if the scooter needs a good run to clear its self out and charge the battery it's self as I don't think it charges on tick over .. Thanks any ideas
