Yeah the 250 ninja is a awesome bike. The older style (pre 09) is actually faster but the newer has a bit more torque on the low end. At least thats what I read about them when the newer style first came out. Its rated at 45hp and most of that actually makes it to the rear wheel once you get over 10k rpm. The only reason I never considered buying one for myself is the riding position. After taking it for a ride its not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. The pre-change ninja isnt a fetal/superman position like most sportbikes but the newer model of it is. I'm glad to hear you say that. I've been considering a Ninja 250 as a second bike.... question though, how tall are you?

every thursday my daughter and i would ride 60 miles to a bike night, wot the whole way, hell i even took her down 690 to speed things up, we were doing 65 and they still pass at 80 lmao. strip your seat and refoam it, it isn't hard it 's putting on new vinyl that can make it or break it, change your fluids alot it is cheap, stop and let her cool , but 27 miles is about where i would stop to take a break anyway, you should be good, foot pegs? need to see your scoot to recommend that? I don't want to hi-jack the thread, but where would you recommend getting new foam, Phaze? My seat is worn out after about 12,000 miles. I was also thinking about getting a gel pad from ebay to insert with new foam.

The ONLY gauge on my bike right now is a Sigma bicycle speedometer. The bad part is no backlight, so I can't see it in the dark. I calibrated it with a GPS, so its dead nuts on. However, since I don't have a tach or anything else... I'm planning to upgrade to this: www.trailtech.net/75-704.html ~ Speed/Odo, Tach, Engine Temp, plus its backlit and can run off battery or 12v source.

Maybe I'll give the el cheapos a try in my oil cooling system, although I was seriously looking at the spin on mod.

A rubber mallet is your friend... Give the cover a few pops and it'll come loose.
Don't worry about salvaging the gasket... its relatively useless anyway.
Other will probably chime in, but that's my $0.02.

Look closely at the photo. There is a spark plug wedged between the flywheel and engine case. The owner tried to chang plugs and dropped it in there and just left it. The motor turns over fine now. I see that now....

No fun. I managed to free up my motor when my motor locked up, but I wound up finding all sorts of shrapnel when I drained the oil. After my partial teardown of the motor, I just decided it would smarter to replace the whole thing. So I did! :-)
I still have the old block and I'm thinking about rebuilding it. Maybe try my hand at building a turbo scooter with it. ;D

I'm gonna check the variator weights and see if they are clean or worn. They are stock and with a dinosaur scooter I have and 13,112.3 miles she's lived a long life. Factory weights with 13K miles on them... yeah, those will have flat spots.

Also...
Since our tanks are so small and the chances of a consistent fill each time are slim, I'd like to point out, that you may get a more accurate MPG calcualtion if you track the miles over multiple tanks. Meaning... don't reset your odometer after each filling, keep your receipts (for a record of how much gas you added) and then after maybe 5 tanks of gas, find you add up all the reciepts and average your miles per gallon.

How do you guy track MPG. Normally on a car the pump stop when full. Does it do it on a scoot gas tank too? On my scooter, it will usually stop when full. I frequent a few specific gas stations, since I've noticed that some pumps work better than others. In my tank, there is a small metal bar that goes across the opening that I rest the pump nozzle on. Since the tank is so small, you have to pump very slowly, otherwise it will have a tendancy to overfill. I always watch the level rise, just in case. Then to actually calculate my MPG, I have a bicycle speedometer/odometer on my scooter that is much more accurate than my factory speedometer. I then take the Trip odometer reading from the bike speedo and gallon reading from the pump and enter them into my Fuelly account from my smartphone. It all automatic. I could easily do the math myself, but I like tracking it with Fuelly. I do it for my truck, too.

My riding weather has been great the past few weeks. Mornings in the high 50s, then into the 70s and 80s in the afternoon. GGGRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! Ahh, but soon it will be too hot and humid to ride (comfortably). Where even if you're riding in shorts and a T-shirt (let alone proper riding gear), you're still too hot... I passed out while riding once in the June heat. Granted there were some extenuating circumstances (I had just donated blood). Thankfully, I felt it coming and made it to a parking spot at a convenience store, before passing out, collapsing and dropping the bike.

I don't know if I could ever live somewhere that I couldn't ride year round... maybe that's why God invented snowmobiles???
