Rich... That's all well and good, but I need a running scooter first.

That engine is not for a 16" wheel. That's the same engine I have and my 13" wheel fit just fine.

Ok. Compression tests yielded a best of 75psi.
However, I think I've found a source for a new head gasket.... looks like I'll be pulling the head again, but at least this time, I can do a better job of getting TDC.

Possibly Keihn... they are thousands of counterfeits from China...Well if it isn't gas then it is spark... Perhaps a bad pick-up coil? They can start to go bad and will idle but as soon as you ask it to perform faster it fails.. also a bad ignition coil or weak CDI...even a problem with your stator... Don't want you opening more cans of worms but they could all be implicated... I know there's a chance it could be a counterfeit Keihn, but I'm pretty sure its authentic. My scoot may have been way overpriced, but most of the components are on the high quality side. I have a nice spark, so I'm not convinced that will be the problem. However, you may be right. Right now, I'm convinced the problem is timing or compression.

Alley, when I spray into the pilot jet, I do get spray out by the butterfly. I'll have to get myself a can of spray air and see if the needle raises. Not something I'm going to use frequently, but it should be good to have on hand..... I just bought a compression tester from Harbor Freight. www.harborfreight.com/quick-connect-compression-tester-95187.htmlSo, I'm going to check compression in the morning. If compression tests good, I'm going to try and verify my timing again. If timing seems to check out, I'll probably just order a new carb. If compression doesn't check out... well, that's something I'll deal with when the time comes.

No Title...

Nice discussion. I was mostly window shopping on Craigslist, but it kept popping up and I got curious. One of these days, I'll get myself a motorcycle. I'm not sure yet if it'll be new, or an old beater to fix up. I'd rather not deal with the headache of getting a title-less bike titled.

Been looking around on the local Craigslists for motorcycles and I have a question. Seriously... why are there so many bikes without titles?? Are they all just stolen bikes?

Run a fine wire through all the passages too, carb cleaner is fairly useless in those tight spaces... That is not a standard carb... if it gives more problems spend the $30 and just replace it... Is there a name on it anywhere? Its a Keihin carb. Its been on the Matrix since the day I bought it. The latest cleaning did not help. I also change spark plugs, since I had a spare laying around. Same exact symptom. Idles rough and dies the moment you give it gas. I'm not convinced its the carb, yet. I think the timing may still be off. Thoughts?

New Scoot.

thanks for letting me know i will have to get some ahead of time so when i get the new scoot i can go ahead and weld. im thinking about some footpegs like how they come on dirt bikes that have the spring in them and they fold up when theres no pressure on them. if anybody knows any other footpegs that fold maybe without a spring, let me know. No problem. Just watching out for ya! I hate seeing people getting needless tickets. The pegs on my Matrix pivot. They can tuck into the body out of the way, or pivot out for use. I'm not really sure what sort of options are out there. I've seen a few guys make use of BMX pegs before as highway pegs for the driver. I'd be concerned about spring loaded pegs with a 5 year old, because if their little feet come off the pegs while riding the pegs may collapse and they'd had no where to brace themselves. I think I'd want something fixed, or at least lockable in an open/closed position.
